As for non-weaponised food catching then I think the best option is 'passive' trapping/fishing.... fixed lines, traps etc. that you visit once or twice a day to check for food. There's usually an investment of time, and some effort, in the original construction of the 'traps' but then after that there isn't much expenditure of personal energy, and in a true survival situation 'economy of effort' is crucial.

Depending how malevolent the people knocking on your cave front door are, then that cosy warm shelter might become your personal trap - if there isn't a rear/another escape route out of it. Besides the world's full of caves near the coast - those brick and mortar holiday homes.
