Weekend Prepping Shop

So...Out and about at the weekend looking around the shops with prepping in mind. I stumbled into a few shops and got some great ideas....but what do you think? In sports direct there were mens shoes, boots and trainers for next to nothing at all, some as little as £5. Would it be worth carrying (in a car or a bug out location) a spare pair of shoes?? I know iv been camping a few times and got very wet feet and relied on a spare pare of crocs or trainers to keep me mobile.

My next thought was in my local £1 shop there were disposable electronic cigarettes. Now mainly for trade use but as little space as they take up may be worth having one in the bag. I was thinking about this before i managed to Google shelf life of cigarettes...answers vary.

Carrying a spare pair of footwear is a very good idea. I prefer to take some walking sandles with me as it is easy to latch them to my bag, it doesn't matter if they get wet, and they are quick and easy to put on in the middle of the night if you need to get up and pee.

I definitely agree on spare footwear for all situations - I always keep decent walking boots/shoes in the car (underneath the passenger seat taking up no room at all) in case I need to walk anywhere when wearing daft shoes/heels, even just a breakdown situation can become a real difficulty if you don't have dry, comfy feet!

Spare socks. Went fishing today, boots leaked, wool socks, feet still warm. However, when I got backto the car and changed into me driving shoes-wet socks!

I went into my local Army Surplus shop last Friday for the first time in over a year (I shop online) and was horrified at the prices on show for basic items such as wind up torches, multitools, folding shovels etc.

I appreciate that these places have to charge a premium to cover overheads, the trade should be that we get first hand advice and ideas from an expert in person, which would be well worth paying the extra for.

Just shouldn't be at any cost though, £20 for a steel folding shovel that is £10 delivered from Amazon, charging £80 for a multitool that costs £35 online (same brand and model) or £40 for a small backpack thats £15 on Amazon. I was polite as possible about it all and eventually did buy a pair of waterproof trousers but the guy working in the place was living in the stone ages, he sneered at me when he noticed I was checking prices on my phone.

I'm sorry friend but welcome to the free market, buying local is worth something but not extortionate amounts of money, nobody owes you a living.



Do any of you know which is the best national store to buy tealights cheap from these days? I last bought a couple of packets of 50 from an independent pound shop her (£1) but now they only sell packs of 30. 3.33p per tealight is fine but I was looking to spend 5-10 pound and get a boxload. I love those bloody things lol

try Aldi / Lidl they were selling packs of 50 for Halloween.

Thanks for your comments! I heard a few people talking about 100 tea lights from Ikea for £1. Online they are just under £2 for 100 so not sure if this is an in store offer only but worth a look.

Iv ordered a few pares of spare boots, trainers to put in various places. Spare socks is something iv carried for years! Wet feel suck!
