Emergency shelter
Re: Emergency shelter
I have a 2 person one that I found in tkmax of all places, they are made as strong if not stronger than the average dome tent fly sheet, which thinking about it, would work just as well, although these are meant to be seen on mountans by rescuers.
siliconised nylon, chuck it over you and sit on the edges to weather a storm, gets you out of the wind and rain for sure.

If you use the phase "man up" you have alot to learn.

Re: Emergency shelter
These shelters are great to get you out of the elements in the mountains or anywhere.
I have used them countless times on overnight bivvies and for keeping casualties out of the elements while they get First aid and packaged up for a stretcher ride. if you get a couple of people inside you will be amazed at the feeling of warmth. As muncch said get inside and sit on the edges to keep the wind out.
I never go on the hill without mine.

Re: Emergency shelter
Best way to describe it is that its like a big bike cover, but you would have to be very good friends
although if it was a life situation.

Re: Emergency shelter
Not difficult at all, they come with an attached stuff bag and you just push them into the bag and pull the drawstrings job done. Just remember to dry it out when you get home.Amber_Leith wrote:4-6 person capacity lol.

Re: Emergency shelter
I keep looking at bothy bags and every time i do i walk away from them, if you are leading a group it makes sence as it enables you to get people into shelter to make decisions or eat out of the wind.
I pack a bivi bag and sleeping bag for myself and an orange survival bag for signaling or for a casualty.
If i am on moor land or forest i pack a basha as well.
In 20 years of mountineering i have only fallen off a mountain twice but have seen plenty of idiots wearing jeans and strolling up with nothing but a water bottle..
you can get a good nights sleep in a survival bag doubt you could in a bothy.
