newbie Hex type stove question

Post by HistoricalSteve »

Sorry if this is a daft question or been asked before.

Can Hexi stoves, or other similar types take burning organic fuel,

looking to get something for bugging out but want a device that will that is operable with both chemical fuel (tabs etc) and organic (twigs), going to be getting tabs, but they are a limited resource.

perhaps all devices will accept both and operate fine long term, just wanted a bit of advice.
I am not rich (very far from it) but happy to pay more for the right device, two of which will be very important in my prepping plan.

Thanks for any advice.

I have used a Hexi stove with twigs plenty of times.

Have a look on this thread:

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

For best results from hexi tabs use two, one split into quaters and the other left whole, this will bring water to a boil quickly then maintain a good heat for cooking with.
I finally stoped using hexi stoves last year when i whent to a pocket rocket gas stove, it gives enough gas to last 1 week of bugging out and cools down very quickly so can be put away without melting your bag/webbing.
When i use wood i biuld a nordic stove, just split a log in 4 or tie some branches together (cut to 10inch) this gives you a self contained fire with its own flat top for putting your mess tin on, it has its own base so can even be used in a marsh or on snow. you can even pick up the entire fire and move it closer to your shelter.
