I get two months of pills at a time. They are supposed to stop me from going mad (Not so's you'd notice though!). Yes, it is an important factor in preps. There's not much point in stocking up 18 month's supplies, if the medication that prevents you from having a heart attack, or enables you to breathe, runs out after eight weeks! Can't help thinking though, that stockpiles of meds isn't something we ought to expect the NHS/tax-payer to fund.
Best wishes, 2RM

I pay for my prescriptions, so the taxpayer isn't paying for them, I am!2ndRateMind wrote:Can't help thinking though, that stockpiles of meds isn't something we ought to expect the NHS/tax-payer to fund.
Edited to add: There aren't that many conditions / illnesses that allow for free prescriptions. I have little trouble with the idea that my taxes pay for medicines that keep people alive. I know far too many people who live from prescription to prescription and end up in trouble when their supply runs out over Christmas or the chemist has run out of stock. It's not a matter of simply stockpiling. It's also making sure one has enough for everyday shortages.

have also to take thyroxine, which worries me on two counts, Mad Scientist. Firstly you're lucky, I can only get a max. of 2months at a time. Secondly, they seem to have a relatively short life span.I have an extra 2months supply so far, the only way I could aquire this was by missing out 1 day a week and this is not ideal but can think of no other way. If anyone out there knows of any herbal remedies, that might be a way in a world without chemists.

Hi Izzy,
ask your pharmacist when the meds actually are no use to you. Many Pharma Companies quote short dates for various reasons. I Know the United States Military had a major review of storage times due to this as it was costing them billions due to quoted short shelf lives. You maybe pleasantly surprised.

Ask a medical herbalist before you take anything tell them that you are worried about running out of your meds and would like a back up system that you can take for a few days until you can get your regular medication. Kelp and parsley help with thyroid problems there are other herbs out there but these two are easy to get/grow in this country.izzy_mack wrote:have also to take thyroxine, which worries me on two counts, Mad Scientist. Re: Repeat prescriptions
For some things, yes that is possible. For instance, I take the highest strength antihistamine there is (only available on prescription), but at a pinch, bog standard loretadine will keep me going. I can buy that in large quantities incredibly cheaply online. However, my asthma inhaler has no alternative and just having a look online now I can see it could cost £47! And I'd still need a prescription! Even if there were an online non-prescription outlet, I'd be very wary of buying something that I had absolutely no guarantee was safe.smoggiebowman wrote:Does nobody just buy online?

Re: Repeat prescriptions
my doctors have started doing this now, for everything, even the contraceptive pill, i used to be given a years supply which was great, now its 3 months and they changed it without even saying the first time i only got 3 months i didn't notice until i got home so when i went back last time i asked for a longer prescription to be told they are worried about people having out of date drugs if giving a long prescription which is ridiculous i argued my case due to my working hours it is very hard to get an appointment i can get to or even go to the pharmacy when its open so he let me have 6 months.
my daughter also takes medication in sachet form on a repeat and luckily she no longer needs it every day but we are not telling the docs that and i am continuing to get her repeat prescription to stock up! as when she needs it she definitely needs it!!
