Hello all

Post by Schrek76 »

Ok just a quick post to introduce myself, I'm from Plymouth bang between the sea and dartmoor and have just recently started putting my kit together although I have been mentally preparing for much longer. Also living next to dartmoor I have some experience with wild camping and basic survival off the land. I to am feed up of people thinking I am more than a little crazy, because I think a storm is coming in whatever form it takes and decided to discuss and trade tips with some people who have similar views.

Welcome to yet another Plymothian :D

It doesn't have to be all "Doomsday Preppers" Natural disasters aside the world is going through some tough times of late, things are crap for lots of us and promise to get worse, yet it would be foolish to not keep one foot on the ground so to speak, I'd tend to put it as "it feels as if there could very well be a storm of sorts comming", tell you what if I had the money I'd have a bunker of sorts, where I would store things precious to me aswell as the accepted preps, and a good quiet area or bloody loud area if the mood takes me, I have come to like a bit of peace and quiet these days, but wont deny I'm still a lover of listening to and indeed playing and singing rock music, which whilst I did once do it for money, it would be cool to do it knowing no one else could hear nor be disturbed
Tell us more of the wild camping/survival it sounds like fun :D sometimes people will poke fun at you, you just have to shrug it off, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, stuff does happen, and yes it could happen here, the trick is to have some really fun hobbies that could be of use, along with a larder full of lentils and a loft crammed with toilet roll, if they get you down ipmlying you're off your rocker, imagine them one week into a crisis running out of food, and allready out of toilet paper.. who'll be laughing then? You'll be able to tell the preppers by the normal walk.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

I'm leaning more to the decay of civilisation and the resulting chaos that will ensue, history shows us that all civilisations have a shelf life and I believe one as corrupt as ours is in heavy decline. I hope I'm wrong of course as I have kids with another on the way, and want a peaceful and happy life for them if at all possible, but i prepare for the worst and hope for the best.. :)

I do hope this civilisation bucks the trend, given that we know more of history than those preceeding us, and that the knowledge and community is global now, I doubt it would all be completely lost even in a major catstrophe, but that is the worst case scenarios, prepping as we know is more than that, the definate scenarios IMO of climate change and the end of fossil fuels are something we have to work through and a damage limitation exercise, for which being better preppared is the first step.
