CB radio

Sorry if it has been asked before and if so could someone point me the topic please.

I will be very soon getting a 4x4 again and wanted to install a proper CB radio in it and also get a couple of handheld ones to go with it. As this is something new for me could I ask where should I start and with which equipment?

i was thinking the exact same thing, i've had a quick look around and they have a few set ups at maplin but as im new to it i dont know if the gear is any good or if its a fair price. would be good to see what others opinions are

I just got a CB form Ebay for £20 works great, but not a hand held.

Buy used unless you want a radio with SSB support. There is no real reason to spend more than £70 for a radio for your car, an antenna and two handhelds. I like older model Realistic radios. Ebay is the best place outside of carboot sales.

It is but if you are buying more than one radio you can talk to yourself.

With CB radio's there are no massive differences besides build quality (unless we are talking SSB and some do FM/AM but you are not allowed to use AM so its not a needed feature)

For a car rig, you are looking for something that is 40 channels, that is from a well known manufacturer, i.e Realistic and Midland and look relatively clean/looked after in the image. Antenna wise those cheap mag mount whip antennas are fine but anything from Moonraker is good.

For handheld, buy Realistic nothing else, as they don't seem to stand the test of time well, also other brand are over priced. Only buy models that run on a 9v or AA batteries and get two that do more than one channel, most also offer 40 channels.
