Norwegions / Norgees (Thermals)

Post by JamesMR »

Anyone that has been in the military knows how great these things are, anyone that hasn't probably just thinks they're old army tops if they seen them and would completely dismiss them.

They are a toweld material and labeled "Extreme Cold Weather" they are essentially thermals and are still issued to the likes of Royal Marines for training is Norway to this day (As far as I know)

You can get the tops used for about £4 or £5 in most army surplus shops or around £10 brand new - The long johns can be had for around £3 - £4 used and about £8 brand new.

These are FANTASTIC, much better than the type you get from most retail shops and cheaper too in a lot of cases. As with anything used by the military they're made to last and work. I have about 4 or 5 tops and 3 sets of long johns and they are absolutely amazing for the money, a must for all BOBs and just to have in your house / vehicle in case of emergency, they do keep you VERY warm and I practically live in them in the winter months.

Just a heads up for a cracking piece of kit :D

Got a couple of the tops myself and agree they are very good for a minimal outlay. I like winter camping  but I don't go often enough to justify the outlay of a decent 4 season sleeping bag (I do keep looking though  ).

Coupled with a pair of these:

And a few other items, I basically added a season to my bag. It's worked very well so far, the coldest yet being -5. That's camping in a tent too, so I'm sleeping on the ground.

Great shout! can't beat softies either :)

I got a great 4 season bag with a -20 comfort temp and -30 extreme temp rating from Go Outdoors for £40 with the discount they offer, or is that too much?

Was similar to this, but it's that type of shop where they have loads of something one week and then none for ages. Everyone can get a discount card though, really easy.

Last year I got in it inside a survival bag and just lay outside in the snow about 7pm and I actually fell straight asleep, brother woke me up about 11pm thinking I was dead but I was sweating haha - Great piece of kit :)

I normally leave my bedroom window open constantly to let me room get freezing then get in my norwegions, open my sleeping bag and put that over me followed by my quilt, there is something strangely satisfying about being warm while all around you is freezing :')

You sadist

I like to be warm, at all times, which Is why I buy stuff to keep me comfortable.

Exiting a nice warm sleeping big and slightly warm tent at night, in the winter, to have a pee, brings tears to my eyes and doesn't do much for my endowment
