uk preppers
uk preppers
i've been calling myself a prepper for about 2 years now but only recently bothered to look up uk based sites. before then it was US and whilst informative to the most part they're nutters that make us look sane :p but since being on ukp it's put my feet on the ground. no more prep for astroieds with nuclear zombies. but something that had affected myself and the oh a few times before which is simply job loss my main reason for storing food now is in case ya can't afford it next month. so ta ukp

Re: uk preppers
Yep, we're not all nutters with bunkers in the foundations of our houses!
It is about the everyday stuff; the car breaking down and needing comfortable walking shoes or food/water, flooding, evacuation due to a gas leak, unemployment, ill health.......I could go on.
Glad you are finding the site helpful

Re: uk preppers
A lot of the US-based stuff feels very unreal to me - preparing for martial law, or having half a dozen each of rifles, pistols, shotguns, etc.
I *do* like the concept of a personal SHTF - unemployment, flooding, whatever it may be. There doesn't seem to be as much paranoia on these boards as the US ones. I'm not saying our government wouldn't do us over just as badly if it needed to, its just not the primary object of what we're about... seems so, anyway.
Of course, this little guy with the tinfoil hat is on here
just in case

I like to think that the British way is one of reserved calm and politeness. Even when the world is freaking out.Arzosah wrote:A lot of the US-based stuff feels very unreal to me - preparing for martial law, or having half a dozen each of rifles, pistols, shotguns, etc.

In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.
Robert Frost.
Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.
Me.

Re: uk preppers
Americans tend to take things to far (not just with prepping). I've found that uk prepping sites have more useful info, not just for those in the uk but for anyone in interested in prepping. Guns and ammo won't last forever in a SHTF world.
Re: uk preppers
Indeed, this is one of the better places to discuss stuff. My main preps (being mind set and skill development) are for the future when bills will be higher so it becomes important to learn stuff now so that i can still survive comfortably.
Either that or the reptilian aliens who live in the planetoid hollowed out moon have successfully brain washed me using their mind rays (or HAARP, or subliminal messages through the TV's strobe effect) to believe that there is no such thing as the new world order, that chemtrails don't exist, that smart meters aren't going to kill me, fluoride in the water isn't that bad for me, my fridge isn't spying on me and that vaccines are a good idea.

As one of the few American on this forum I have really enjoyed seeing the cultural and practical differences between our two nations regarding the topics presented here. Cultural analysis aside, please remember that in the United States any middle aged, under employed blogger, living in his parents basement, can bang out on his computer whatever notions manage to wiggle through the folds in his tin foil hat.
Sadly that's a lot of what you seem to have found. And I suppose given five minutes reflection we'd all come to the conclusion as to why; the "normal" folks are to busy providing for their families, visiting with friends and generally living life.
Still I should like to apologize for my countrymen, but also remind that here in the US one can say whatever they like in the market place of ideas no matter how insulting, unsound, or just plain "wacky" them seem; unfortunately the Internet tends to make the craziest voices the loudest. But in the end I strongly believe that trusting in the common sense of the average man or woman in the market place of ideas will eventually mean that quality will rise to the top and the noisy tin foil hat claptrap will be exposed for what it is.
Contrary to world opinion many in the US are sensible, educated, and polite folks just trying to make a more enjoyable and resilient life for our family, friends, and communities. That said here are few good sites I think you might like... Thanks for letting me participate.
Cheers.

Re: uk preppers
I used to visit my uncle in California from time to time. the Americans I have met have all been self assured, intelligent, balanced, warm and down to earth. However, the British people who seemed to revere the American way (however they interpreted it) seemed to only listen to those "the internet doesn't make people stupid, it makes stupid people more accessible" kind of stories and take them seriously.judicatr wrote: Contrary to world opinion many in the US are sensible, educated, and polite folks just trying to make a more enjoyable and resilient life for our family, friends, and communities. As a nation, you are keeping your sanity and exporting your insanity !!
