I hope you did them in proper mylar bags Technik, I tried putting stuff in ordinary bags and vacuum sealing them, contents still went off after a while, and sadly Tea bags go off after a period of time as we found out when we gave a friend a cup of tea and he realised the taste was wrongTechnik wrote:The vacuum sealer works a treat! I've just baged the whole 1100's tea in to smaller bags. Love it

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Have done a big Sainsburys order for Tues to complete the winter food stash & replace the stuff we ate.
If I feel better on Wed we're going to look for a brass coal scuttle/bucket thing. Then we can get a day's coal at a time in, and save him going out in the cold or snow.
We eventually did get an electric blanket off some spare money we had saved, and its gorgeous
Finished the first pair of xmas pressie socks.

No, I used the ones supplied. These are thicker than normal bags and am not really worried as I drink lots of tea and this will be rotated fastthe-gnole wrote:I hope you did them in proper mylar bags Technik, I tried putting stuff in ordinary bags and vacuum sealing them, contents still went off after a while, and sadly Tea bags go off after a period of time as we found out when we gave a friend a cup of tea and he realised the taste was wrongTechnik wrote:The vacuum sealer works a treat! The embossed bags normally supplied with vacuum sealers are 'barrier' bags and are the equivalent of Mylar bags, they just use an impermeable plastic layer, often nylon, in their construction instead of an aluminiumised layer and are more commonly used in Europe. Other layers can be polyethylene for easy welding so on the inside and polyurethane for strength on the outside, each manufacturer has its own preferences.
No difference in function, they still block oxygen permeation.

Brass looks nice, but we have a galvanised scuttle now-tough and practical, and cheaper than brass. Found out the hard way!diamond lil wrote:Have done a big Sainsburys order for Tues to complete the winter food stash & replace the stuff we ate.

Topped up our first propper raised bed. It's 1m deep. decided we possibly don't need to go that deep with the next few. Inventoried our food stocks with the aid of our walkie talkies, recived the Berkey Water Filter. Only day off, so a quiet time.
