Tecsun Receivers ?
Looking at the Tecsun world band receivers - anybody with any knowledge of these?
Re: Tecsun Receivers ?

Re: Tecsun Receivers ?
I looked at world band receivers a couple of years ago, and looked at the Tecsun range amongst others. Tecsun are regarded as a "good make" of receivers. I found choosing a receiver a rather complex business as good quality receivers have so many facilities. First of all, it's probably best to avoid the cheap (roughly £20 to 30 range) analogue receivers; these apparently lack both sensitivity and selectivity (selectivity is basically the ability of a receiver to "separate" two stations very close to each other so one can hear them.diamond lil wrote: ↑Wed Apr 16, 2025 6:24 am Looking at the Tecsun world band receivers - anybody with any knowledge of these?
I ended up getting an XHDATA D - 808 digital receiver with Single Side Band. Having SSB capability is useful, but costs. I got a discount on my receiver and paid about £65 for it. The performance seems good. There's a learning curve to using this compact receiver; like many comms devices, it's worth keeping in practice. Note that the D - 808 is made under several brand names, of which XHDATA is one. I felt that some of the Tucsan range were a bit overpriced, but this is opinion only and not the subject of real research. It's best to take time over choosing a receiver, and reading the listings very carefully.
Although I've said little about Tecsun receivers, I hope this is some help.

Re: Tecsun Receivers ?
Thanks pprep- I'm finding google either throws really cheap stuff at me or else top of the range expensive stuff. I don't mind paying for good quality - I like the look of the Tecsun S-2200X MW/LW/SW/SSB & AIR BAND receiver - but in this case I might end up paying a lot for features I have no idea how to use. So am taking my time onnit..

The XHDATA D220 is a good pocket or BOB sized radio for £14, check it out.

This receiver is quite high - end! Note that the manual can be downloaded. This will help you see what you're getting. Tecsun also do more compact and cheaper digital receivers; they have a whole range.diamond lil wrote: ↑Fri Apr 18, 2025 12:12 pm Thanks pprep- I'm finding google either throws really cheap stuff at me or else top of the range expensive stuff. If you're thinking of BOB, the D220 looks OK; it has Short Wave, which matters.

Re: Tecsun Receivers ?
I wanted it to listen to SW worldwide plus sideband pprep. Have a Roberts internet radio Stream 202 here but that just has FM DAB and internet radio inc some scanners. Wanted something beefier but at same time, as you say, it's not cheap and would be daft to get it if I then don't know what to do with it
I'll download the manual now.
Re: Tecsun Receivers ?
I mentioned this recent purchase but in the wrong thread, my mistake.
£20 delivered from UK ebay supplier, built in battery with USB C charge port, covers the standard FM for the beeb stations plus the HF (short wave) ham radio bands. AGC plus upper and lower sidebands for ham frequencies, BFO lets you listen to morse transmissions. Comes with telescopic antenna which is fine for FM; BNC connector so you can attach a better antenna for 'short wave', a simple piece of wire will do.
Lots of youtube videos on the ATS-20+ which will guide you in its usage ... its tiny, pen for scale. Will easily charge from a power bank or solar phone charger
