Had ordered two hurricane lanterns, one leaked and the other didn't arrest the flame with he flame arrestor so I got a rather scary flame that didn't do me any good. So they got chucked and I have ordered two mason ball jar converter tops which turn the mason ball jar into an oil lamp and I have ordered two glass chimneys.

The test of the hurricane lanterns wasn't completely wasted, as for a time I could get a good feeling as to how much light they give off with paraffin or kerosene as fuel. Its quite a warm and bright yellow light. Not a patch on regular domestic light, but still more then just useful ambience.

Aways good to have a good shakedown and test before needed to be relied on

I opted for a feuerhand lantern the build Quality vs the cheap ones is well... Noticeable

I'm doing lots of little bits:
- ordered some underlay, 100% wood fibre, from screwfix, to be delivered tomorrow, and got cashback on it too. Very little cashback, but hey ho, its adding up.
- sorting under the sink storage, so I can fit more in. I have a NIDO tin under there which now stores dishwashing tablets - another NIDO tin is about to run out, it will just fit on top. So now I can store the vinegar bought for cleaning purposes under there too.
- I *would* store cleaning levels of bicarb there, but I bought it from The Range, and 500g of bicarb all over my parcel was the result. A one star review and a series of photos later, they're finally ready to start talking refund.
- security film also bought from The Range. They bent it, to fit it in the wrong-shaped box :( Hopefully a refund is on its way. I might try to use it on a tiny window, but its useless for what I wanted.
- fitness: I've had a walk the last two days, and its better (using the abdominal muscles is what I need). Do another one today, I want to do weeding but that doesn't use the right muscle set. Nor does painting a wall, which is the other thing I want to do.

Had to go to my dad's funeral this week. I thought it might have been last week. He died about 2 days before the roof started leaking, so I was worried about getting it fixed, finding the money and travelling, he lived 300 miles away. Funeral was delayed because his doctor was away.
Over 40 local people at the funeral, he new a lot more people than I do.
Anyway, all over now.
I had to 'borrow' a few items from my prep gear. Ideally you should avoid doing this if you can afford it, especially from bugout bags which should always be ready to go. You need to make sure everything goes back asap.
So, although I'm skint from the roof, I ordered 2 x Platypus collapsible water bottles as they were a decent price (£9.99 each inc delivery) and a short MFi certified iPhone cable, to avoid having to dig stuff out of my BOB when I travel. The Platypuses do get a bit of wear and tear so it's not a bad investment. I'll put the new ones in the BOB, one empty, one full, and put the old ones in my travel bag.

Sorry for your loss,

Hopefully you can now "enjoy" the run up to the C word without any more issues and the roof stays leak free ;)

Thanks.
Not doing C word at all, apart from hopefully going out for a drink or two. I don't have kids or even nephews or nieces. I used to give my lodger's daughter some money but she's working now. I will send a few cards out.

I'm very sorry to hear this, Frnc, sorry for your loss. That's good that he had so many local people at the funeral, he must have really made an impact on the community, in a good way.

And as for not "borrowing" from your prep gear - you had a bereavement and a roof problem at the same time, this is *exactly* what your preps are for. Though yes, I agree with you, make sure everything goes back asap.

I hope you're holding up. Or letting yourself go - coping in the right way for you. And as for the C word ... my mum died on 20th December, and "C" that year was definitely weird. Nobody cared. You just do what you want to do, though I'd say make sure you get some protein inside you as well as anything else that takes your fancy.

Cheers Arzosah. I'm not really sad - he was 91. The last few months must have been pretty grim, as he was in a bad way, so he's better off out of that. I'm a bit sad in other ways, eg that we didn't get along as well as I'd have liked, but that happens to lots of people. Kids in the 70s were very different kids of WW2 era. At least we were on talking terms.

Gonna have flask pasta with cheese for protein!
