I used my SAK to home-brew an adaptor to charge my laptop and phone. Didn't know South Africa has some weird round 3-pin plug so my usual travel adaptor was useless. I undid a bedside light, stripped the wires and wrapped them around the pins of my charger plug - job done. Oh and used it to trim the bougainvillea from the wires of the electric fence outside to keep it from shorting out with a massive bang every 3/4 second - wearing my head torch too as it was pitch dark. Half expected a shot from the neighbouring house - all the "Armed Response" signs got to me a bit.
Oh and gave a pregnant woman a handful of nuts (usually have some sort of food on me) when she felt faint.
And gave some colleagues some duct tape (have a couple of metres wrapped around a pencil in my pencil case - amazing how often I use it) to get fluff off their skirts.

Re: The last time you used your EDC?
I've been thinking about this little thread while I've been off the forum the last month or so. And I predicted a while ago when I started making this kind of thing my hobby, that the more I get used to carrying certain items the more I would actually learn to use them and apply them. I've been trying to take notice of when I'm using stuff and when I'm not, because I'm trying to hone the use of stuff and methodologically remove or add things as I see the need or lack thereof.
I've realised that by carrying my little Ti2 torch on a pocket clip, and my SwissChamp on one too in my left jeans/kex pocket (my phone pocket) that I actually use them every day at some point. The torch needs a new charged battery every month or so. The SAK has mostly been used for things like opening packages, screws and food - spreading things on bread has been remarkably useful while out and about. But by having it at my left hand, easy access I was right about my usage going up. It's just there at a seconds notice whenever I want it. Great stuff! I can't see me changing this system any time soon, although I might swap my big Champ out for my mini keyring one just to see if I can live with it.
That said, now as I have grown to be dependent on these things, now I'm wondering if I'm slowly deskilling myself. Learning dependence isn't a good thing, surely?

They're still in use here in the theatre industry for running lighting, pretty sure those are the ones they use in South Africa, so if you go again you can get the bits easy enough to knock up an adaptor before you go.
That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die.
