Gas mask and Ebola masks?

Post by Drakie79 »

What is the ideal gas mask to buy on a budget? I know some people see little sense in acquiring one but nonetheless it is something I would not mind. What are peoples thoughts on Ebola masks? Are they something to get?

Hmm have you seen that Volkswagen (ignore the current emission issue) where the guy buys the top of the range parachute , and the other guy the budget one with the free alarm clock ......

You really want to risk your ability to breath safely ?

However you could go with the good old S10 ex army issue
Or then new GSR issue mask , but you'll have to make sure it's face fitted properly

Or you could go an industrial type

With a suitable filter .

First you need to know what you want to be "safe" from.....

many toxic agents be it Biological / viral/ chemicals/ fumes/ dust need a specific outfit to protect the skin from absorption too ..

then you also need to understand how to decontaminate yourself from what ever it is and clean your mask safely ........

Id be first looking at an escape hood such as the DRÄGER PARAT 7500

since it covers all the bases from chemicals to dust to fire gases

but is not cheap

If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

In CBRN/NBC/HAZMAT incidents (depending if looking at it from a Civvie or Military point of view) there are 3 main types of how you can be effected by a weapon/accidental release.
Inhalation
Absorption (through the skin)
Ingestion

I think this was stated by someone else, so in many case's a gas mask in isolation is fairly useless (except against CS gas which most people can take if their eyes are protected (along with respiratory system)). If it is a persistent agent (certain nerve agents) then staying in a suit and mask is awful, even a few hours. A NBC suit is difficult, hot and not something I could do for the long term...

I would go for (and have done) for the good old S10 with CS filters, truth be told in a gas, gas, gas situation I'm certain I couldn't get all my family ready in time so I think I would rather "opt out".

Hope this helps.
