Welcome to uk preppers. I am sure you will find the information you are looking for right here.
Just a friendly tip before you start your research. We don't discuss 'weapons'. It is not our way, so if you could keep that to yourself , that would be great.
Aside from that, enjoy!

Hi
Thanks for that.
Sorry didn't know about not mentioning weapons.
I won't say another word about them

Hello and welcome, slow and steady is the way to go. Being aware is the first step on the road to being prepared.

Re: Hello from Dorset
I'm also from Dorset, though didn't end up growing up there, annoyingly.
I'm new here to. I posted a hello, but it seems I can only reply to posts and not make new ones at the moment so it isn't currently showing.
I've lived afloat for some years now and being "off-grid" is actually really, really easy. The trick is only to reduce your expectations.
Taking my little boat as an example: It's currently 19.5 degrees centigrade in here, I've got 2.9 amps coming out of the 12v domestic batteries, and 400mA being drawn over the 230v shore power (mains supply). 100ml of kerosene per hour is keeping the temperature up, and to be honest I've got the hatch wide open as it's was far too warm. A jumper would have perhaps been the more sensible choice. Anyway... All my lighting, services, and internet connectivity (always on Raspberry Pi "server" and 3g-wifi router) is via the 12v, and the only reason the mains is pulling so much is because I've got my beasty but usually stowed-away gaming PC fired up. Without being too greedy on the electricity I can sustain life indefinitely via solar PV and the occasional run of the diesel engine. As long as I have a little bit of kero, life is cushty, and pretty much as it is now whilst plugged in. My water system is integrated, and I've (usually) got enough ethanol, kerosene, diesel, and water to run at least a month without having to think about resupplies. This is a 25ft boat, so nowt extravagant.
There's no way you could do that with a house - at least, not without an unfathomable budget. Houses use far too much power. People expect too much from them. I'm not a seasoned prepper by any stretch, but just for the sake of conversation and because I live it, my experience would suggest focusing on making a single room a self sustaining refuge. It'd be easy and fairly cheap to fully kit out a room for comfort on entirely independent systems. A garden shed would do the job sans dining room. I reckon - I know - £3k would make a comfortable abode of any box or compound curve.
