This is my first alternative means of cooking should there ever be any problems with the mains gas supply at home. I will pick up cartridges for it when I'm out and about as they seem quite expensive online without buying them in bulk.
These are the type of stove I'd recommend to anyone for power-cuts etc
We use ours when car-camping as well
As it happens I was thinking about keeping it in the car so it's always nearby

Butane stoves become useless below about 5°C

No worries used the bistro stove on building sites ended up with the cartridges shoved up my jumper in cold weather alternating 2 of them to make a brew...

Most caravanners swap to propane in winter for this reason ...

Added bonus is the type of cartridge is available in many sizes to fit your kit bag or intended use....

Or how about a 12v kettle (must run the car whilst on or it will flatten battery....). Its slow but no flame

My mother has suddenly decided that the world is going to plunge into chaos in the next few months, or within the year at most & decided to stress out big time about it.

Having accidently opened my big mouth & said 'well, if it all goes that bad just make sure you have a full tank of petrol & drive to my house' I'm now trying to work out how to triple my food stores.

It's alarming how quickly a years food becomes just a few months if you are going to have to feed even just one extra mouth.

Have added another 28 canisters of gas to my fuel supplies to start with.

I have a similar problem. Although my family don't quite know the extent to which I intend to prep, my mother and sister both already noticed the excess food that I had in a cupboard when they came round once. The reaction from both was "Well if there's ever a zombie apocalypse we know where to come". I managed to avoid the persuing conversation that would make me look like a :tinfoil to them by saying that I've started to food shop monthly now, and that I always stock up whenever there's a good offer. That said I would never turn my family away if SHTF, I just don't want to make myself the "go-to guy"

Bought myself a DD frontline hammock along with a 3m x 3m tarp and a storage sleeve to pack it in , so far the wee one has stolen the tarp for her den and wants to hammock camp in the garden at the weekend.

On another note , never felt so insecure in a job as the one currently.
Which is a worry , so feelers out to hunt before the inevitable happens
Be Prepared.
Plan like its the last loaf on the shop shelves.
Plan like its the last beer in the fridge.
