Been through Mr D's dressings bags (3) from his surgery and we now have an impressive amount of dressings, saline, silver dressing sheets, mepore dressings and pads, sterile kits containing everything you need to dress wounds (x10 packs).

He's got to have further surgery for a hernia, caused by the last two operations so the kit can only get bigger!

Have you had the nurses dressing packs from the pharmacy, the script dispensing part, they are kept in there, they come in packs of 12, my son had major surgery and i had to look after the fixator and i used them, as what they left was never enough, you have to buy the saline pods seperate though, but they are quite good value pack, with gloves and assorted dressings

Mrs Deeps managed to retrieve my last lot of strawb jam that was brick hard, she made a second batch and put the first lot in with it, didn't add any pectin sugar, just used normal stuff with a wee splash of orange juice to dilute it and voila ! I knew there was a reason I kept her around. :D

If you can get one with pints markings on the inside, it will be a great help. Neither of mine have them, so I marked up a bamboo skewer at 8, 10 and 12 pints from the bottom of the pan for reference. Takes a lot of guesswork out of the whole thing.

A thermometer and a jam funnel have also been top presents from SWMBO, the jam funnel has saved many scalded fingers and pints of spilled jam.
Ha, funny you should say that, the one we saw in 'Jam pots R us' was fairly basic, not as fancy as the one I've borrowed so I was straight on to Amazon and 35 quid later it should be winging its merry way to us. Kilner with all the pints and litre's marked up the side. I've already got the thermometer and funnel, I bought a kit with some jars (and wee 'fluffy' bits, the labels etc which I'm just too Goddamned manly to bother with, Grrrrrr ;) ) which was only a tenner because it was half price.

Don't forget the jar lifter tongs, also saves burnt fingers when getting the jars out of the oven!
We saw some of these in our visit to 'Jam pots R us' and again, they were half price, I didn't have a scooby doo but Her Maj knew the score so we got a set as well as some more jars.

I'm guessing she's feeling challenged now because I've stepped up my 'jammin' (cue for a song) so she's made some beetroot chutney straight out of her allotment, win/win for me. :D

I'm going to Gibraltar in a couple of months because a mate is leaving the Navy, guys I've not seen for a couple of years, when I tell them I've been making Jam (and hopefully some chutney's) I suspect there will be a few that will think I've gone a bit 'peculiar'.

This was all given by the hospital and the district nurses each week including the saline pods and scissors to cut the silver dressings with. All given free too which saved a fortune, plus a weekly trip to the GP meant another bag of dressings and sterile kits!

I got a wee 'Brucie Bonus' tonight, a mate dropped off a couple of pairs of the newish pongo boots, the last pair I got issued were 'high legs' so these are a lot more swept up. He was also kind enough to drop off a few more bits and bobs, very much appreciated. I reckon I'll be getting sore feet walking the dogs until they get broken in but better doing it this way than being crippled when I really need them I suppose.

Well I suppose technically they're Navy boots but the navy I was in never wore boots like this unless you went somewhere warm and sandy. Pongo boots as far as I'm concerned.

Been doing a bit of driving this weekend-Scouting out alternative routes from the Home to the 'rents. Now funnily enough there were 2 fires on the roads yesterday (a tanker went up near Runcorn and manahed to grdilock the M56/M53, and then in Cardiff a car went up and took a calor gas van? with it) Which shows how easily the roads can become impassable.
From south wales to the north west are the A49 and A449 both roads popular with bikers and both roads i've driven a few times before. But yesterday I decided to go more off track and armed with my mapbook i swiched the satnav off and made the journey trying to navigate by landmarks and cheap compass. (Went a little off course between Shrewsbury and Lulworth but on the whole a nice relaxing drive and prob better than sitting on the M6/M5 car parks)
Also this week is more decluttering, As when I was in the NW I was given some rubarb plants and a load of greenhouse shelving. Its time to find space for the rubarb and plant the shelving :)
