Hi, ive been thinking about this sort oh heater for my shed/mancave project, but also want something that could be used indoors in one room if we had to bunker down because we have lost utilities.

Is this the right thing to be looking for?

I know some of you already use them.

cheers.

Ventilation considerations aside, I would pay a little extra and go for something new (and possibly safer/more efficient) like this:

My prepping consists of bugging out by bicycle so any comments are likely to be based on that scenario.

We used to have a similar one (to the ebay listing) in our kitchen when it got cold in winter I think it may have been a Valor. I used to run it on Kerosene rather than pink parafin for obvious cost reasons. If you kept the wick trimmed and adjusted it was great, plenty of heat and very little smell, unfortunately I was told wicks were now obselete for it so would have to modify something to fit when I needed a new one.
As has been said before think carefully about what you are doing - they are pretty stable but keep kids and bouncing dogs away from it and be mindfull of potential problems with fumes/ lack of ventilation especially if you have a modern house with double glazing and doors that seal shut etc

Even obsolete wicks can be had, often at reasonable prices.

This fellow (link below) has the most information on Kero heaters and the care of same that I have seen on the Web. Lots of images and drawings on how to set up, use and store these heaters. The site owner also wells wicks and related items for Kero heaters, stoves, lanterns and such. Might drop him a line and see if he has any substitute wicks.
