New prepper in Essex

Post by spamofthejungle »

Hey all, I'm new to prepping, thought I should get in touch with some fellow nutters, for character whitnesses in court if nothing else haha :D I'm planning a little 3 day trip to test out my bug out bag and a few bits of kit. What's the legality of wandering around the fields and woods of Essex? I figure tresspassing could be a problem, but what about 'camping' in council owned woods etc?

Cheers guys, Sam.

You need to have a few more posts to earn the right to call us nutters!

Welcome to the forum.

Tell us what you are prepping for.

I am finding it interesting that many of our newer members jump straight into using their bug out bags to go 'wild' camping when they know nothing about it.

Personally I practise using my bug out bag in the local travelodge! :|

Welcome :)

Have fun on your trek - do a wild camp and figure out if your kit works :)

Yeah, BOB was the first thing I did, and then started to think more about bugging in (food, cash and medical stores etc), building up skills, and every day carry items (EDC) incase of emergency situations when I'm out and about.

Hello and welcome from a fellow Essex prepper.
Looking forward to seeing you post a bit around the boards.
I'm in the Chelmsford area and perhaps we Essex preppers may get together for a subject orientated social some day.

Best wishes,

Understand I mean nutter in a purely possitive sense, all the best people are slightly un-hinged =D

I think the reason a lot of us new preppers go straight for wilds camping to test out kit is because once you know you can do that and feel reasonably confident that you could survive for a time in a secluded location, you feel more confident to concentrate on the long term.

As you can tell I survived, I travelled from Epping Forest to Basildon cross country over the course of three days (two nights of camping) and had a bloody good time. My kit worked well, despite being thoroughly bargain basement (tarps and paracord, hexi-burner, £5 hatchet etc), I used everything I took and didn't feel like I needed anything extra so I count it a success.

I'm prepping for natural disasters, pandemics, government/economic collapse, the government deciding we have too much freedom, or any number of unforeseeable circumstances.

Now that I feel my BOB is reasonably sorted I've started work on stockpiling shelf stable food and medical supplies, and at some point I intend to purchase a suitable Bug Out Vehicle.

Wulfshead, that's definitely something I would be interested in, I think networking and building relationships is incredibly important, sharing skills and knowledge is way up there on my list, and as a mechanic I believe I have something to offer.

I look forward to hearing peoples opinions on my trip and my intentions, if anyone reads this over a month after my first post.

Sam.

Spamofthejungle,
You have 5 posts ATM so drop me a PM when you have doubled that and got access to the PM facility.
I'l meet up with you for a pint and a chat, can't say fairer than that, you never know I might drag Jotnar along also :)
Yep, we will always be seen as nutters but it's better to be a fed nutter than starving in the in-crowd, but I guess that was what you eluded to.

Be well,
