Hello from the South Coast

Post by Spongebob »

Hi,

I'm from the South Coast of the UK and have been prepping for several years now. I'm chiefly preparing for a temporary suspension of civilisation for a month or two, rather than an all-out collapse of civilisation as we know it. Think Hurricane Katrina style infrastructure break down, rather than Zombie Apocalypse. Ebola has me checking my preps and evaluating my options anew, although I think winter blackouts are more likely.

Hello and welcome. Have a look around and see what you find useful.

Hi Spongebob, welcome to the forum. I think you're spot on in your analysis, and a lot of us are more or less in the same place too. Hope you find the forum a useful place to be.

Thank you for the big welcome!

Now I have had time to look around I can see lots of like minded people, but also more importantly a diverse range of prepping experience.

Although I've prepped for several years, it's been in periodic waves of enthusiasm, and the forums should help even that out more. I have learned that practice is the most important bit of prepping. I opened a tin of corned beef the other day that was two months past a best before date, after some overdue rotation of food. It had green mould on one corner and I also decided I now hate corned beef adter trying a bit from the other end. I've switched to dried chickpeas as my staple prepping food, and the best bit is we eat them every week anyway.

Only two months past BB date? Blimey, that was bad luck to get mould on it! Chickpeas are safer, anyway :) and you know that rice and lentils together are the nutritional equivalent of steak, don't you? Can't be bad :D
