It is (in my opinion) a very good long-term prep.
I'll probably Mylar bag it too, but that's probably unnecessary. Salt is probably one of those things that gets forgotten, but is indispensable. When ready made meals are no longer available, salt will be worth its weight in gold. I'll probably buy enough to fill a 5 gallon drum - at least it's cheap - and then I can tick it off my list, as I don't think I could dedicate any more space than that. Do you keep just the one drum full? I must find out about those screw top 5 gallon drums. I paid for my buckets and suspect the lids would get ruined with repeated prising off (I need to get one of those tools) - they're not screw top.

Each time you open it, the lid is stressed and moisture gets in. It's probably best to have a smaller (screw-top) tub of a few litres and fill that from the big one, then fill your every day container from the small tub until it's empty.
SHTF around 2017.

Once I fill that bucket (with 4, hopefully, 5 one gallon Mylar bags) that will be it until TSHTF, therefore, hopefully, it'll be listed in my Will :). I haven't used more than a few teaspoons of cooking salt in the last few years, as we don't add it to veggies and pre-packed food has quite enough in it, as do stock cubes. The salt I have in my small grinder will probably last a few years yet :).

Got myself some ibuprofen. i know that it doesn't feel like it, but the winter is on its way and starting to get some kind of winter medicines kit together makes sense.

Going to do a stock take of the cupboards this week to see how far I am from my target of three months food.
I need to find a man that will come and look at the fire place to see if we can reopen it for an open, fire sadly it's not suitable for a log burner  which we would have liked to have but at lest we will have another type of heating instead of relying on gas.

2x 10L water; 2 solar heated camp showers; Ali foil ( for the tinfoil hats ! ) :P
Parchment / baking paper; white vinegar x 2; tattler lids and rings ( re-usable canning jars lids and rings).

For the house: 2 x water filters and a new faucet for the kitchen. Magic bullet frozen dessert maker - coz we love ice cream but my frozen raspberries, etc will be better push through this doo hickey ( and I know what's in it!)

Sorry to be slow replying. Yes, I only keep one barrel full. No need for more (for us). The drums I get may have contained lime pickle, mango chutney and even rice. I keep salt, packs of pasta and rice, and poultry feed in them. They have good solid handles on the side and they stack well. It is worth asking at your local Indian restaurant as they take up space in expensive dustbins.
