Hi Kizzie, checked out the link you provided to the pressure cooker you bought, and that one is stating they will only ship to the US. My link to the Presto canner does ship to the UK, and when you add up the total cost, which comprises:-

The canner itself $95.81
Postage $27.12
Import duty $24.86

Total $147.79

After converting at the current exchange rate, The Presto Canner will cost £87.05 all in.

@Decaff, the gauge is good for at least three years, but having them checked out is not a pain in the butt, just look for a firm that pressure checks gas cylinders, but being realistic about this, it would be far more cheaper to get a replacement gauge. There's plenty advertised for a good price.
Stay safe, stay prepared.

Looks like I am going to get it. as saying its now dispatched with a tracking number.

Hello 462kizzie

Thank you for your purchase of Mirro 92122 22-quart Aluminum Pressure Cooker/ Canner, Quantity 1,
Item #161369692534

Your item has been shipped, you can track it at .
Please allow up to 24 hours for the shipping carrier to update.

Its a lovely big one (22 quart) and with a jiggle valve like my pressure cooker. £77 all in. Im so excited. Fingers crossed it gets here.

Now need to get more jars. I have about 15 but need more.
Plus will experiment with mayo/jam and other good quality jars.

I asked on a forum and they said the lids are not made for pressure canning. But I dont see why not? They are better built than canning lids. I know the USA never uses its lids more than once but in Europe they are used over and over, so maybe they are just extra careful.

Need to get my shed fitted with lots of shelving and I am good to go.

I have it! Its huge. I am now trying to find out if we can use jam jars rather than the canning jars that Americans use.

That will save a fortune. going to test a batch in a couple of weeks. :D

Yayyy! Look forward to hearing about the food you're going to can!! Trouble with jam jars are they are rather small, which is fine if just for one person. Personally I would get the disc and ring jars which are known and trusted to be safe.

Jam jars type jars come in the same sizes as the kilner jars. They dont have the one piece lids in the USA or I bet they would use them. We have used the jam jar type lids here for many years for bottling. they are better quality than the two piece lids, those lids are so flimsy and the ring is only there to stop the seal popping off when moved. so its just that thin bit keeping the seal.

Been reading a lot about it all and as long as the jars seal then its good to go. :D I use jam jars for dried food and seal them with my jar sealer and the seal is always as good as when you buy them ready sealed. (lots of sealed in my post hahah) Jam jars are much cheaper here than the other type. so with my first batch of canning will use both types and see how they both go.

its all exciting isnt it

Kizzie, have a look around your local Aldi as last month they were selling jam making equipment and screw top glass jars, Mine still has a few packs of jars left.

I was in Aldi on Tuesday, they do have jam jars on offer at the moment and they had stacks of them!

They also had lots and lots and lots of fishing gear if anyones interested!

But they didn't have any of the big pots of herbs, which was why I went in the first place!!! :x
