A button compass would be ideal. A liquid filled one. Normally get them in survival kits. Very easy to lose though. I carry mine in an old lifeboat matches container.nickdutch wrote:Compass of one form or another as I have a lousy sense of direction, but so far I have only been using the one on my phone and thats silly, so I am going to work out what kind of non electronic one to get meself.

My swiss army knife, ferro ro, zippo and mini torch go everywhere with me. I also carry a cash reserve, credit and debit card and my phone.
In my coat pockets I have tissues, toilet paper, wooly hat and gloves. Also, my glasses and depending on weather I may also have a cap ane sunglasses. I often also have some type of lozenges and paracetamol.
If there's a threat os snow I also carry yak traks.

My yaktrax didn't survive the first winter, currently rocking some cheap-jack ones that fit on the boot in a different way...... They seem to be holding up just fine.Mally wrote: If there's a threat os snow I also carry yak traks.
Seriously, if theres any threat of snow or ice you need some sort of extra foot traction.

I've had two different types of these, ones with pins which meant I pierced any linoleum type of flooring and got caught in carpets and the ones with springs on the bottom which were fab and kept me upright on the ice.

Mine have springs too, they work great. I think they were Yak Trax but they seem to be holding up ok.Decaff wrote:the ones with springs on the bottom which were fab and kept me upright on the ice.

Yes that's the ones. The ones with pins are useless, as I found out!

My yak trax have had some serious use and have never let me down. Although last winter I never used them at all.ForgeCorvus wrote:My yaktrax didn't survive the first winter, currently rocking some cheap-jack ones that fit on the boot in a different way...... Had them a few years now. Wouldn't be without them in winter.

Re: Wouldn't be without it?
I'll admit I don't always have something on me as I quite frankly don't feel the need. When I'm out working I will normally have a SAK , lighter , torch and cash on me and unless I forget it a phone too. In addition as I'm working there is a van with tools and stuff nearby , but I don't feel the need to carry them when at home and as most of the time I'm less than an hours walk from home I don't get into a sweat if I don't have something with me. Sorry guys .

@pseudonym - I'm impressed. How long did it take you to build up them? Is there quite a lot of variation between each backpack given their different purposes?
