Hello from Andy. I'm new.

Post by weggz »

Hello everyone.
My name is Andy and i'm new here.
I thought id just write a quick bit about myself and situation etc.

I decided last week to start prepping for myself and my wife, my two children and my dogs....

Last year around June i was struck down with a very bad bout of Capylabactor food poisoning. Wowo i was laid up for Nine days, really ill and almost sent to hospital. I wasnt preppared for this at all, no medicine, hardly any loo roll (trust me i was going on average twenty times a day)
Anyways i was kind of thinking afterwards what would have happened if i was on my own and had no wife to nip out and get me things and meds etc?
Then it got me thinking to other situations that familys face. power cuts, water shortage, food shortage, illness, cash problems, pet problems etc etc.....Then i stumbled upon this fantastic site!!

Im not prepping incase of an invasion from outer space, I dont believe that there will ever be riots where i live, im not prepping incase of solar flares etc etc.
I am prepping for everyday things......... say for example my water was cut off would i currently cope? Nope.
If the banks crashed and i couldnt get any money out, If we ran low on food and was snowed in, if my electric was cut off, gas, water etc, If i had to protect my family, if one of us got ill.........

Also it got me thinking about a bag for the car incase we broke down, stocked with water, food, foil blankets, torch etc.

Anyways im rambling a bit now.
Any advice would be very helpful.
Fantastic site by the way.
Im starting from scratch so wish me luck :D

Hello and Welcome to the forum. Since you are brand new to prepping I recommend a good couple of days of reading through many of the different threads on here that will provide you with advice and help you decide how to move forward with your preps before you go out and spend any money.

Also, don't be put off that you might not have much yet by way of preps. It often takes many years to reach any where near where we'd like to be. One good thread that we had on here was about putting just £5 a week away and using it for preps. Value sachets and tins of food are a good place to start and £5 a week on them and in a few months time you would have a decent supply. Until you have the money to buy better quality items, Poundland do cheap camping gear that would make a starting point you. Basically, take it easy, don't get overwhelmed and do what you can, when you can.
