if TSHTF chances are you wont be able to buy any perishables anyway ;)

Ive a LPG fridge that will run for about 2 weeks on a 7kg LPG bottle which is my short term back up .....

But as decaf as said its not end of the world pepping sometimes just a power cut or the kitchen been flooded or simply been unable to financially afford to replace a expensive white kitchen applience can cause you hard ship...

a camping fridge is a handy prep to have as you can move it easy and they can run on different energy sources if you can stump up the cash. a decent 3 way (240/ 12v/ LPG could be invaluable if your say Diabetic or take medication that needs to be kept refrigerated .. Along with been handy for days out with the family with a picnic inside or long journeys on holiday to keep the larger cold for when you arrive

Thank you so very much for such detailed instructions, my charger is a digital one and I don't have a car/caravan battery either. BUT! I got to thinking, if I froze a couple of sealed boxes of water and stood one in the bottom and one at the top of the fridge, it may just keep things a bit cooler? Not tried it yet so watch this space...

I am very grateful for all ideas given to this problem so thank you everyone. :D

EDIT: Just looked on Argos and I can get one of those 6 litre fridges for £29.99 and the adapter to plug into the mains for £7.99, I may go with that and then I can use in the car when out and about! Has anyone else used one of these??

Probably go without like most other people LW ;) but it has made me think that maybe I should look into an LPG fridge, if not too expensive of course.

I agree with Andy that there wont be much fresh food around to refridgerate so it wont be a problem. Stocks of powdered milk will be more than adequate until a better solution comes along, or I can find a cow to milk...

The lidl cool bag fridge is bigger at a guess that power pack in Argos is 12 4amp ;-) still Argos offer a 30 day return policy ;) ;)

If you have an alarm don't put them in a room with a pir sensor (speaking from experience)

O have a royal ez4000 3 way fridge got it two winters ago (camping stuff is cheaper at the back end for £120 from towsure

Just lifted my first ever home-grown garlic. The bulbs are small, but very nice :) I sat in the garden plaiting them together earlier. Much fun!

Arzosah wrote:Decaff, evaporative cooling is the answer to help a little bit - you will need to pay out for terracotta flowerpots, probably, I believe they're the best because the water evaporates *through* them as well as *around* them, but at least you'd have them afterwards for container gardening.

There's loads of links, but thats a typical one ...

goodluck.
Thanks Arzosah, terracotta is the one I remember, not clay  I am a fool, must be this heat ;)

It covered a pint sized bottle and was kept outside the back door in the shade.

## It doesn't say what the amp is on Argos one. Looked on Robert Dyas and there's a 14 litre mains/car powered one at 240volts would that be more powerful? Certainly enough room for more than a pint of milk looking at the picture and I have a 15% off voucher ;)

++ I will wait till end of season and see if I can pick one up cheaper, hopefully I will be back in work by then!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, appreciated very much.

3/4 fill coke bottles with water and freeze. Put them in the TOP of your broken fridge. Cold air sinks. Well done , you just solved your short term problem. :D
