Hi Rincewind thanks for the tips, I am feeling a little overwhelmed after reading a lot of posts.

I didn't realize how much was involved in prepping, I understood the basics like food and water but then I started thinking about heat and light, especially when it comes to winter. Then medicine, I rely on thyroxine everyday and only have 30 days worth at the best of times. How do people prep for prescription medicine?

Feels like my brain is having a little bit of a meltdown thinking about it all!

I know that feeling! Take a deep breath, a step back and try to concentrate on a couple of things at a time. Water, food and medication are my top priorities as im bugging in. Then how to cook the food came next along with good old fashioned oil lamps, battery/wynd up lanterns, stash of batteries and keep building your stocks up remembering to rotate what you have so everything you do have stashed is the freshest it can be. I grab a few packs of over the counter painkillers every time I go shopping and add these to my stash which is stored securely in a tin, I will get a lockable box for extra security at some point. Batteries get stashed every time a good offer is on to keep costs down. Just a few pounds a week can make a huge difference to your stocks in a very short time. Think outside the box food wise, end of cold spell and soup will be reduced to clear and tinned sponge puddings, after holidays tinned ham is a bargain. Small steps instead of giant leaps. :P

Thanks Decaff, I know I'm panicking a little and probably being a little paranoid. :)

Just feels like I should have started preppering sooner and the not knowing if/when something might happen is constantly in the back of my mind.

Like you suggested, I'm going to focus on the basics work on from there. Thanks again for your advice :)

A very warm welcome!
As people have said - plenty of us gals here - me included!

It's overwhelming isn't it, don't worry. Remember you are among friends and like-minded people here. No question is a stupid one.

We all have varying degrees of knowledge, experience and skill-set.

The key is build up slowly, at first I was anxious as I wanted everything in place immediately and I soon realised that - financially especially - that would not happen. I have small children and luckily a supportive husband, who at first would tease me, but then after we had to rely on my preps, sees things differently.

Concentrate on an area or two to start . Good luck! X x

No worries! One step at a time is one step closer. It does get you a bit paranoid to start with but that does fade and you just do what you need to do without having to think too hard about it.

Everyone starts the same way, with that 1 thing you bought and put away. The fact that you are now aware and are doing something puts you absolutely miles ahead of those out there who are not aware and have nothing put away. Keep plodding at it and you will be surprised how quickly it mounts up.
Best wishes :D

Thanks Decaff, NorthernWoody and ggc for the advice and support! :)

I think I'm starting to find my path as a prepper, setting myself goals to reach without breaking the family budget! I think I'm even getting the husband into it!

Welcome Charlie :D I remember that feeling of omg when I first started. Made loads of mistakes, like buying tinned foods that I didn't normally eat. The dogs and chickens were happy to eat my store of Tesco value rice pud when I finally admitted defeat and chucked them out. :Your instinct is to go from nothing or very little to being ready, my advice is take your time, think things through and do what is right for YOU, not what others think you should do, and yes this forum is full of nice helpful people, you'll love it.
