Hi everyone,
I'm a software engineer from South Wales. I've been interested in survival & bush craft since I was a kid when we did lots of family camping trips, I was in Scouts and Army Cadets, had planned on joining the Army when I graduated but life sort of put a spanner in the works.
Hobbies/interests: computers, robotics, guitar, DIY, woodwork, martial arts, photography, astronomy...too many hobbies really.
Looking forward to getting to know people and sharing ideas!

Ah, I missed a popular question from lots of other introductions...
What am I prepping for? Well, I don't really have much in the way of food stores, but I am hoping to buy my first house soon which will give me a bit of a garden to grow some fruit and veg (once I learn how not to kill them). I have some camping kit and bits left over from when I was in army cadets (IPKs, torches, mess tins, hexy stoves etc) so I would probably be ok in a prolonged power outage situation (plenty of fresh running water near me). I figure that's the most likely potential problem in the UK, apart from flooding in some areas but that doesn't affect me or any of my immediate family.
Another potential problem would be a fuel shortage, I have an elderly mum and disabled sister, living around 30 miles of me, so I try to keep my car above half full (I think of the half way line as the red line), so I could get to both of them in an emergency and potentially move us all to one location if needs be.
I don't really think a large scale economic collapse or political break down are very likely in this country, though one thing that really does worry me is some kind of disease or viral outbreak, like the current Ebola situation in Africa. It's not really practical to keep full on NBC kit around the house, so I figure the best bet would be to get the family together and bug-in at my sister's (the least populated of our locations). I have a respirator for woodwork but I don't know if it would keep airborne pathogens at bay. While I would be quite happy to go live in a forest for a while, I don't really think my mum/sister would be able to do that.
Currently putting together a bug out bag and a car kit. Will post in some other threads about these.
