What Preps are you doing this week
Re: What Preps are you doing this week
I am currently salting and pickling cucumbers-seem to have millions of 'em. Fortunately Daughter and I are partial to 'em.

I've switched to Stevia now Decaff (Tesco's is much cheaper than Truvia). I use less than 1/4 teaspoon per cup of coffee and probably average about a teaspoon a day, whereas I used to take two Splenda or other artificial sweetener in each cup. For a long time, Splenda was marketed, if I remember correctly, as a sugar based sweetener (and therefore, "natural"). The chemistry of artificial sweeteners is a real eye opener - formaldehyde with your coffee, Madam? If you don't laugh, you cry! At least I know I'm not the only one who is incensed enough about the food Frankensteins to put pen to paperDecaff wrote:I remember years and years ago writing to a big company who promote juice drinks for children asking about their use of aspartame in ALL of their products, I included lots of scientific papers spelling out the horror of this poison, they were not happy and just kept trying to avoid my questions with a bog standard reply of "this product has been approved for use in food and is deemed safe" I am waiting for this to be banned, its in so much stuff now its madness!

I had a really good digging session over on my allotment today. Planted more beetroot, minutina and rocket and put in some late carrot seeds and started the mustard greens. The digging was helped by a massive rainstorm earlier in the day - it made a normally very hard and stony patch on my plot much easier to handle.
I am particularly fond of elderflower cordial made up with fizzy water - very tasty and much cheaper than the ready made fizzy versions!
I went through a fizzy water squash phase recently (really very nice indeed!), but as I'm avoiding fizzy drinks for the most part, I don't have them anymoreDecaff wrote:Have you tried making the ribena or any juice in fact with fizzy water? Very refreshing.

Cold infused green tea made fizzy is fantastic sweetened or not! Add a slice of lemon and its really nice. Maybe 50/50 with apple juice to make it wine like......

Kids on holiday and preparing for several different holiday and work destinations - our family will be scattered to the four winds over the next few weeks. Amazing how much money my daughter alone can spend on "stuff"
. She's now fully kitted out with hi spec kit. Also bought Discovery 85 (85 litre) rucksack - delivered swiftly from GoOutdoors and seems very good quality compared to others we've seen. Seems to have a pretty full spec, but I'm no expert. Main thing is that it's big enough and it could be adjusted for the size of the person using it. It'll do all the Scout, Guide and DofE camps and trips and, hopefully, will become one of our BOBs. Once all the various trips are over, will get back to other forms of prepping.

The cat has worms, so one of my previous preparations is to have wormwood and black walnut tincture in stock incase I needed to protect myself against anything that the cat brought in and am using it at the moment. The cat is being treated using regular vet medicine, but I am using the tincture on myself. If you have pets it might be a good idea to protect yourself incase of worms through having some of this tincture at hand. You can also use it on pets too, but I don't know what the doses should be.
