Prepping And Pets

Hi guys,

me again, ive been thinking, i want to know how you are prepping for your pets?

are you planning to 'grill the gineapigs', 'cook the cat' or 'boil the bulldog' when shtf?

im planning on taking my only pet labrador 'ace' and i have a 3 week supply of dog meat for him stocked up, i have even taken a animal first ad course, sad i know, but it was fun!

now you might not want to read on as i am going to explain from an experience i had last year why im using ace as a type of protection.



first off ace is a black lab, he is a big lump of muscle, but such a softie he loves an adventure and can find water in a desert, much to my annoyance.


any way, story time.

it was a winter afternoon/evening and it was dark, i was walking ace on a local common as i have done many times, i was listening to music and trying to keep warm, ace was running around like usual, i couldn't really see him in the dark.
out of no where 2 guys came out of a hidden path beside me and approached me, instantly knew it wouldn't be good, i pulled out my head phones to hear them saying to hand over my phone and watch, stupidly on show, i refused and tried to walk around them, i then realised 3 more guys had turned up, out of no where one of the prats swang and missed me,i can handle my self so i started laughing at him i got a thud to the head, after a few i was done, out cold, waking up to see ace stood over me barking and showing his teeth at them, they couldnt get anywhere near me, never seen anything like it, i fazed out again and woke up a little later to a licking to the face.

once home i realised i still had all my things, they got nothing even though i was basically asleep, but in my jacket i have 2 knife slices, we got in contact with the police but no follow up, took the dog to the vets and he was fine, not a scratch.

ever since then he has always been really protective especially with my girlfriend when she is walking him alone.

that is why i will take him with me when shtf.

amazing dog, true story.


i could eat him too i guess.

Thanks Steve a good read, shows Dogs in a good light for which in the most part they deserve, and the existence of Phu£$%ets in such abundance in the here and now, that a dog is useful companion, we have a Rottweiller, a Sh1tbag, and 5 cats, none have proven themselves as much use in a prepping way and there is no way we would eat them, all have between 1 and 2 months worth of food, storage would be an issue for more.

I think you need a dog for defence and early warning of prowlers, and you need cats for pest control.

My Dogs spend so much time snoring louder than a tractor, licking and (truffle hunting I call it) cleaning their genitals and bum in a very loud manner, that they are unlikely to notice much going on until it's upon them, and me they bark at the doorbell and ignore the burglar alarm to the point of being oblivious, that said I've had better ones, and to a degree feel we may well get another when the time comes.

I give them a withering look, that usually does the trick.

My cat's a really posh persian who is very beautiful but thick as ten short planks. Any rodents appear and she'd scream and climb up my leg then faint

I have a German Shepherd Dog who happens to be my best friend.

He's loyal, listens to me, keeps me fit and is generally good natured. He, however, is extremely territorial and absolutely detests any one approaching the house, I feel certain he'd literally try and kill any one who entered the house whilst me or the wife were out, especially if they were dressed like a postman Tough he barks loud enough to scare most people away, handy at election times when the canvassers start nocking at the door.

He's good for my own psychology. I haven't made any special preps in terms of laying down food for him, he'll eat pretty much the same as us (rice, beans and spam) plus what ever i can forage, hunt and grow. Perhaps not the best diet but he'll live well enough.

He also makes for a fantastic hot water bottle on cold nights curled up on the sofa.

I've got a Cairn Terrier bitch, she is very good at telling us when someone is nearby and is a good tracker but not much good as an attack dog, which in the present circumstances suits us fine.
