Re: Monocular Telescopes
Yes I am very short sited and sometimes have issues wearing my glasses and using binoculars. The mono suits me better, especially as one of my eyes has a strong tendency to shut when I am squinting through an eye piece! I ended up with one when I was given national trust membership one year - the monocular was the free gift. Not a huge range but good enough and clear enough for studying the hedge line or the animals in a distant field.

wife uses one of these to watch the birds in the garden, I prefer binoculars myself.
Adapt or Die, there is no middle ground.
Re: Monocular Telescopes
Sorry, but I'm no expert, I just know having bought (wasted money)/used these things myself, that the magnification is poor and gives a very narrow field of view.Dlglgraham wrote:Devonian
Could you recommend a monocular that would be much better, this cheap pair is only for a waist band or BOB. But would be interested in a really good long distance pair as well.
As I indicated before if you have poor eyesight, then yes you gain some benefit from these, but if you have good eyesight, just save your money.
If you want something to see "good long distances" then it will need to be much bigger and would not really be suitable for your waistband or BoB.
Can't beat a good tripod mounted telescope and I'm sure someone can make recommendations for you if needed.

Re: Monocular Telescopes
I remember when I was young a family friend had an old fashioned extending telescope it was either wood or leather with brass and had an amazing magnification .....or it seemed it back then .... Has anyone any experience of using them? In my head it seems like a good compromise between high magnification and compact size at least when closed ....but my minds a funny place lol .... Plus would probably be a bit weighty

Love the look of the Docter 8x21
It seems difficult to find places that sell them though, where did you get yours from?
