Just thought I'd share this on here as I haven't seen it mentioned before.
I've been using Wrights coal tar soap for a while and it contains natural antiseptic properties. I seem to remember my father using it when I was a child. The smell is quite pleasant too! Might be worth having a bar in your BOB and a few handy in case the SHTF. If nothing else they'd last longer than a bottle of shower gel! Think it was asda or tesco I got them from but I assume most local chemists or supermarkets will have them.

Coal Tar Soap
Area 11
Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Once the SHTF thousands of other people are gonna want the same as you. What do you think your chances are of getting it?.......

If you want something small you can keep handy and rub on yourself and has antiseptic properties - have a look at styptic pencils and alum blocks. They were used in Ye Olde Days for washing your face after shaving with a cut throat razor as they will close up small nicks and cuts, stop bleeding, sting like hell, and have antiseptic properties. Styptic pencils also work on bug bites and stings too. You can get pencils for about a quid in most chemists, alum blocks are a bit harder to find, tends to be an ebay job or if youve got a proper traditional barber & shaving shop local.

I recently went to visit a mine in the Forest of Dean and their gift shop sells huge cylindrical bars of coal tar soap! I looked up the recipe to make coal tar soap and it's an absolute swine to make. I just bought a missile sized lump for a few pounds.

I ordered a box of 80 bars off E-bay last month. I think I paid about £30 delivered to the door.
Some of the old ways of doing things work real well. You can use this for all of your washing and cleaning needs.
Put "Carbolic Soap" into your E-bay search and you will get what you are looking for.

Have you tried making your own soap? Its not hard to do and may not smell as nice but its a skill/knowledge worth having.

Re: Coal Tar Soap
Not all 'carbolic' soaps are the real McCoy. Quite often they are just carbolic 'scented' so it's always worthwhile checking, especially if buying in bulk on eBay. I recently purchased a 1lb block of genuine carbolic (containing phenol) for about 7 quid including postage. Mmm, the smell

Re: Coal Tar Soap
Hi guys,
Does coal tar soap smell like 'Voseen Medicated Shampoo'? I love the smell of it. I don't need medicated shampoo but use it because the smell is so refreshing.
I will invest in the soap if its the same route ingredient. Atm I have a store of Imperial Leather (circa 200 bars) layed in....
