Apologies if this has been noted in another thread, but the new hobo cooking attachment for the Kelly has been announced for March if anyone is interested. I think I read that it will fit the Scout and Base models.

kelly kettle hobo addition
Re: kelly kettle hobo addition
Yes cool I have the big kettle and though I haven't used it much, it is impressive, I also have a trianga type cooking kit (not trianga but similar) which has a wire rack which just happens to fit the kelly base, but anyway I shall eventually be getting that hobo stove attachment and the pot stand too, but I imagine you'd want some weight in the main kettle for stability to use that one.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

I haven't got either Trangia or Kelly at the moment, but I've made the decision to get the medium (Scout) Kelly soon. It looks like cooking on the top with the pot stand might be a little wobbly, so I'm guessing that's why they've come up with this Hobo attachment.
I'm getting a bit tired of the power going off and don't want to rely on having to make sure I've got gas canisters etc. I've always got wood. Also I like the way you can boil water and cook at the same time. Yay for multi tasking!

Thanks for the info, i was looking into the kelly kettle or storm kettle, i have used a trangia for years but carrying fuel around seems ponintless when you can just set up camp with a kelly/storm and gather some fuel from your surroundings, thanks again for the positive feedback on the kettle.

No No Not for me.
I've got the largest Basecamp model but this new Hobo gizmo
doesn't fit on the top of the stove but on the bottom where you light the fire.
In this respect all you are doing are putting the hobo attachment on top
of some twigs and wood in a tray. There's no force there at all.
By contrast Kelly kettle also has what they call a 'Port Support"
This fits in the top so takes advantage of all the 'draw' of the wind
for the fire. Much better

either that or buy a small rocket stove

May I suggest you get the biggest model available, if funds permit? Especially as a prep. The extra hot water will be very useful.dizzydays wrote:I haven't got either Trangia or Kelly at the moment, but I've made the decision to get the medium (Scout) Kelly soon. Please forgive me, I haven't had anywhere near enough tea today. I misread the title of the post, I thought it said "addiction"...... So I immediately clicked.....
But it does look like a fun addition to the base to make a nice controlled fire for outdoors.

Re: kelly kettle hobo addition
I have been looking at these a lot over the weekend, is the Kelly kettle better than other makes (Guillie) or are they all very similar. I understand the design of them all is the same, but any preferences?? The whole kit looks brilliant for a preppers mobile kitchen. I have cooked many times on just old chickens ire or similar but as this kit is all so compact together, it looks ideal.
