Wood saw
Wood saw
Obviously chain saw is not much use in a catastrophe scenario. I have an axe and a wood maul. Need a saw which i can use single handed and possibly one to be used by two people. Something that is going to last. I want to use it on felled trees. Have a wood burner so sorted on that front. Thanks Beer

These are expensive but seriously good quality.

I know a tree surgeon and he swears by them.

Sounds like you need one of the following

Would go for a 2 man crosscut saw myself

Re: Wood saw
Cant beat the sandvic / bacho bow saws for one reason... replacement blades... unless you have the time and patience to learn saw sharpening (that or not been able to sharpen cheaper saws)
make sure you get at least a dry and wet wood blade
dry:

wet:

and a big table candle or hard bar of soap to lubricate the blade pre cut

If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong

The only thing more valuable than the things you carry, is knowing how to make and maintain them.
Re: Wood saw
I have picked up a 6ft & 8ft cross cut saws, on my travels. Also have a bow saw, while at best you will get a cut stroke of around 30% of a bow saws length, with a crosscut you can get upto 80%

Re: Wood saw
I have bow saws and have heard many good things about the slikys in the link. I even have a bow saw gaffer taped to a pole for tree pruning , looks crude but does the job. I also carry several standard hard point wood saws in the van, partly because I use them for carpentry but I find them useful outside as well. The narrow blade makes cutting in awkward or tight places easy where a bow saw would snag. Ok so slower cutting as the teeth are smaller but sometimes that in itself is an advantage especially if cutting something like a branch that isn't firmly held.
I also have a large two handed saw and several sharp enable saws but tenon saws apart they don't get too much use.

Re: Bowsaws, spend your money on the blades and buy a frame thats about three times longer then what you're planning on cutting.
My brother has one on those 1 1/2 man saws (like Leo1 linked to),
he got it for about £15 and its great........ PITA to sharpen though
