Malthouse, thanks for your reply. Melting sea ice is not a problem as, like scotch on the rocks, it keeps things at a steady, cool temperature - it takes a lot of heat to melt ice. The problem occurs when the sea ice stops melting - when it has all gone. Then there is nothing to absorb the extra heat in the Arctic Ocean and the temperature will keep going up, which will affect the weather and ruin harvests.
