When Mrs B and I first moved to Shetland, we lived in a very similar house.
You would be surprised how warm those little fire stoves get as the walls are nearly a metre thick and hold the temperature well.
We burned peat most of the time, with a little wood now and then.

Re: Anybody know about RATS?
We once had a bad infestation of rats in our house. They first came for chicken and rabbit food and quickly moved in the house living in the walls. I found their entrance\exit point (had chewed through a plastic air brick). I caged it off leaving an area of about 1m2 and carpeted the ground with tra...

Re: WW3 - logic
The only logic that is to be had from WW3 with the weapons they have got now is the end of mankind as Russia has recently told us, the truth, and to try and prepare for that is not logical at all, in all probability there will be so few of us left and those who are will in all doubt wish they were ...

Re: Poly Tunnels
Looks like a nice set up you have there. A good range of veg.
A question though. I saw you root potato cuttings for planting on later. How successful \productive do you find this to be? I have never done it myself but am interested in how you get on with it as I'm always open to try other methods.

Re: I have fruit trees!
I do plan to plant a few fruit trees in our garden, but I am long way from that just yet. Am still in the planning stage as we have a largeish garden, but are very exposed to the wind. Need low bushes, trees and fencing to act as wind breaks, so need to plant the garden in 'defensive' layers.

Re: Beginner urban prepper
Welcome to the forum. Although you say your partner isn't into prepping to your level, what she is involved with is quite impressive. My wife is aware I prep, and agrees with my reasons, but pretty much leaves me to it. I just make she knows what we have, what we should do in certain circumstances a...

Hopefully he will learn from his embarrassment and remember next. My SO would be okay in a power outage as we have a gas stove, but the one thing she never seems to be prepared for are days when the wind is so bad we can't go out, and she runs out of cigarettes. I score major brownie points by produ...
