Hi from Southampton, Hants.

Post by Oody »

Just a quick hello and brief introduction:

I've been interested and into things environment for many years, having lived and worked overseas, and visited many countries in my life; but I've also been involved in real-estate and finance in the past, and am now actively involved with woodland work, be it management, green woodworking, coppicing or sustainable livelihoods, like living off the land, strawbale homes, bushcraft and anything to do with survival post apocalypse, be it a natural disaster or by mankind (war, societal or financial breakdown). Whatever camp or interest one is in, I'm very interested!

I'm also proactive in my approach to all this, so would expect to be more than just an armchair participant: I'd like to meet and discuss things face to face with like-minded souls. We really need to both educate and raise the profile of the need to prepare for worse times, instead of choosing to bury one's head in the sand, denying that things will ever be that bad. Carrying on as if things will forever continue as they have for the past 100 years or so, is just deluded. we need to take stock and face up to reality and deal with it like any responsible, fair-minded person would.

I note that there are a couple of you in my area (area 2 it would seem) and it'd be great to put faces to names. We can of course meet on neutral ground, not wanting to invade anyone's privacy etc. Woodland would be my preferred choice, and I guess the most suitable, desired place for others too. I hope so.

Having attended this year's 3-day Wilderness Gathering in Wiltshire, I was stuck with how many lovely, friendly people form this community. We'll definitely be returning, hopefully next year; but meanwhile it'd be great to meet like-minded folk and share our respective skills. Just talking, and meeting once a year, isn't going to help one learn the practical skills, which need to be learned consistently, in an ongoing fashion. Who knows, maybe we'll all form one large group WTSHTF!

Pleased to meet you all! ;)
