Hey all, Joining you from the south!

Post by BugOutPrepper »

Hi!
I've only recently started prepping for any situation where people being civil to one another is put aside and people fighting just for clean water ensues and where living in my current area is just too dangerous. I plan on leaving the area I live in and retreating back into nature in a secluded area of forest far away enough from civilisation which just so happens to have its own river, Handy!
So far I have started with the basics but mostly by building up a BoB (Bug out Bag but I'm sure you all know this!)
After I feel I have got it too a good standard and I put it to the test for a few days I will concentrate on mostly stocking my house.

Started by buying a sturdy MilTec Patrol Surplus rucksack, which is perfect for holding enough gear for a week if organised properly.

Inside I have so far:

An SAS Survival guide (This has information on EVERYTHING YOU NEED to survive, even if you were left in the middle of no where with just book and a tea spoon you would be able to live by following the survival instructions)
Dry bag with 2x sets of clothes, underwear & socks. Also in the dry bag is thermal socks, T-shirt, vest, gloves and hat. Most important shelter you have is the clothes on your back after all! and of course a rain coat should the English weather do its usual. (possibly may invest in some waterproof trousers also in the close future)
Sturdy pair of waterproof walking boots.
Tarpaulin (makeshift bivi shelter) at the bottom of my bag and ground sheet.
I also have 3 knives which are very handy tools, one larger fix blade, a folding knife and a smaller pocket knife.
A crowbar which can allow you access to areas you may need to get into in a survival situation also may scare off any looters should they find me eventually and wish to take what is mine.
15m of paracord, Garden wire & hoping to pick up a few reels of duct tape which as we know can fix almost anything.
Water purification tablets, enough for 60 litres.
2 x lighters, A fire-steel & waterproof matches. (back up and more back up!) 20 Cotton balls soaked in candle wax for up to around 8 minute burn at a time in a dry tin. Also some tea lite candles.
A spade, axe and bin liners (all are useful in different situations, Bin bags for example can be used to keep firewood dry or fill it with leaves and use it as a makeshift sleeping bag! even put it in a hole in the ground and make a disposable toilet bowl)
Snare wires.
Pen, pencil & notepad and a Pack of cards. (may get quite bored out there)
Flattened toilet roll, Sanitary wipes, Tooth brush and tooth paste.
Various painkillers and bandages.
18 high bars, 3 cans of tinned beans and sausages (yum yum)
I plan on having only two litres of water in my pack to start with as I have sustainable water supplies at my bug out location and wish to conserve my energy.

If there is anything you think I've missed no matter how important please let me know!
Thanks all!

Hello and welcome to the Forum. :)

Now that's an intro.

I'd add a compass and some maps of your Area and to your BOB
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Now that's a fine idea :) I do know the immediate area like the back of my hand but I have only ventured 2 clicks further down past my potential safe haven on foot. Google maps shows it spreads out further but it doesn't show up with rivers due to thick tree canopy in the area, would be nice to find a secondary water source out there. A map would be very handy incase I get lost! (may need to brush up on my map reading skills a bit!)
