As I am only just starting thinking seriously about Prepping I have started with looking at what I have got to hand first. We have gone camping alot - not your proper wilderness stuff, but your family new forest, under the trees with a toilet hut somewhere nearby kinda camping. This means that I have now a variety of camping gear that is useful in times of power outs as well as for what the futures throws at us.
I have several tents
2 Stoves with a weeks worth of gas for each
grilliput and colapsable fire bowel
wind up torches and radio
pop up bowel and very compact sea-to-summit towels that take up no space
sleeping bags, rectangle cooking tins that sit inside each other to save space etc etc...
My rucksac remains unpacked and ready to go and I check it reguarly to replace contence if needed. It contains spare socks, leggings and a baselayer, firestart set, basic first aid, pacmacs, fruit bars, sugar and salt sachets, compass, pencils, notepad, waterproof bag with torches and batteries and matches, water purifying tabs, plus other bits and bobs. I encorage my girls not to unpack their rucksacs so they will always have their waterproofs, spare socks, first aid, anti bac and tissues ready for when ever we may need. They don't need to see it as BoB/being Prepped, but just as being ready so mum isn't chasing them round the house looking for stuff if we are going out for a summer walk/hike!
I also keep tinned food for 2 weeks in the house should we get snowed in (no that doesn't happen very often down south here I know!) or several of us get ill at the same time - it has happened. I have started buying for ecconomical reason huge 3 or 5 kg bags of rice and pasta as normal use so I will always have a good week or twos worth of those to hand: I buy the next bag as soon as the first is opened. Also I keep 10 litres of water incase of minor water supply emergency.
So basically I need to build on what I have. Expand my tinned and dried food/water storage bit by bit. I also I have just got an allotment patch (yey!) after 3 years waiting so now can get growing products to store, preserve and to eat!
So I will start at the begining with what I have have and then move on from there. My hubby and I have always said we'd like to take up archery (he does clay pigeon from time to time) so from a learning new skill point that is my next step along with expanding what I have. (oops sorry long post!)

Sounds like you have a very good start there ....
As has been said in many threads, you should prep from the bottom up starting with the things you simply cant do without:
Water (water water and more water) for all your needs 1 person needs 5+ ltrs of water a day!
Shelter (sounds like you have that one sorted)
Heat / warmth (temperatures even inside a house can kill and do so every year).
Food (something to cook on and supplies - survival rations are 2000 Cal per day per person)
Power (do you need to charge that mobile phone/torch ... think of how to do it)
Oh and dont forget toilet paper ....lots and lots of toilet paper!

Definitely a good start PP. Keep working up on supplies and think about medical supplies etc.

Tents are a good prep, not only for the time you might have to live away from base, but in the base as well, a tent put up indoors is a great way to save on heating

Great start. I hope your hubby is behind you and doesn't think you are a bit loopy. My family think I am mad and sometimes I agree with them.
Food for me is the most important thing. Well done on getting the Allotment. That will certainly help.
Can I suggest a vacuum sealer. I store my rice in 2 litre pop bottles and then suck out all the air. they will keep for years that way and are pretty easy to store.
Keeping warm in winter can be as simple as thermal underwear and a few extra layers.
You could do worse than invest in a Kelly Kettle. You will save a packet on fuel as you can burn any small pieces of wood or other combustable. You can boil water and do your cooking at the same time. No worries about running out of fuel.
Keep up the good work.
be lucky (and sane
