Growing solo

Post by grenfell »

Those who listen to radio 4 may have heard this show today. I caught it and it was a short but interesting listen. Basically it's about an attempt by a guy called Max Cotton to be self sufficient in food for a year and should be of interest to preppers I thought. One thing that struck me was that it seemed to put the brakes on the idea of vegan self sufficiency. I'm not anti vegan , I have several vegan friends , but Cotton kept chickens and a cow and the dairy produce was a welcome addition. It went on to explain how dairy was a great boon to many during the hungry gap , a time when very little is ready to harvest but grass is still readily available.
Anyhoo the programme is available on BBC sounds

He’s done a whole series of videos of him doing this month by month on You Tube.

Here’s a link to his preview of his year of self sufficiency.

I tend to listen to radio more than watch youtube but perhaps I'll have to make an effort to look at those.
