They seem to be trying to maximise profits. That's what the boards of directors are obliged to do.
Ripping us off? If they are pushing up prices using every legal trick in the book, then that's just Business as Usual.

As to that vid. I was shocked at the good light it shone on ASDA, which i believe is as bad as, or worse than the others.

Can you produce and grow all that they sell and for the same cost?

If not, they are not ripping anyone off.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

I caught a couple of managers at my part time gig discussing putting up prices, especially delivery prices. They plucked 20% out of thin air and so it was decided. To be fair, prices were low and had not gone up last year.
It's a psychological spiral across all businesses and walks of life. When 20% increase compares favourably to the massive price increases of a bag of sugar, basket of groceries, then no-one wants to buck the trend. There is no incentive to be the cheapest. It's a vicious circle and as the pound in your bank is debased, we all lose.

Is it ripping off? I'd say no. Are some businesses smirking as they rake in higher prices and profits? Undoubtedly.

But most retail businesses are struggling with higher costs and cost of production of EVERYTHING stems back to the rising demand and finite supply of energy. Nation states think they are controlling the price, but that's an illusion.

Inflation has a firm hold now, in our collective consciousness. Which shop is going to say 'let's hold the price'? Which union is going to say 'Let's ask for a 2% pay rise'?

20% is the new 2%

The original poster is right to be aggrieved by inflation, but actions speak louder than words and anger just doesn't help. Vote with your feet: Demand value or take your business elsewhere. Grow/bake your own. And if you think a company is making obscene profits, buy shares in it.

This is not financial advice, but note how, for example, Tesco's share price has leapt from £2.00 to £2.60 since October, (30%) but how it's still down by 30% on the price in 2013. IE. It's a very volatile business to be in.

We have had a generation of cheapness. Real cheapness. I can remember President Bush senior telling the world around about millennial time, that Globalisation would make life so much better. And it did. Now the 70’s , 80’sand 90’s have been forgotten- and many folks were never even there! Stuff then was expensive. Now we are spoiled. We expect cheapness.

As my youngest said today- we may as well just get on with it. She is right. I could sit here and whinge about it, but I’ll spend that energy doing positive stuff today. I’ll sow some beans. 😀
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.
