Big 1" drive socket tied to the bailer twine ... Check other side is clear and lob over the roof tie rope to twine pull rope over house X2 or 4 then tie to tarp eyelets then pull the ropes evenly up it goes without the need to get on the roof.. won't work in all situations but it's a safer option if possible bar the flying socket
Use a similar system with a catapult to put parachute shelters up in the woods.

One of the lads over on BCUK had a line firing catapult which was interesting to say the least!!! We used it on one camp to fire lines over tree tops to rig a ham radio dipole antenna, worked well.

To position a "stealth" radio ham antenna some suggest fishing line and a tennis ball. Catapults are also recommended but are less readily available.

Perhaps that and use the fishing line to pull a stronger rope over rather than throwing something potentially damaging like a socket?

In fairness, if I need to put a tarp on my roof, I’ll use the two crawler ladders I have.

This week I am processing more firewood. I have a LOT stored, but the way things are going, it’ll be as good (or better) than money in the bank. Here in the sticks, many neighbours have fires and stoves. Push comes to shove, I’ll flog some or trade it.

The more I hear of the cost of heating next Winter, the more I feel vindicated.

Is that the same as the legendary Kiwi number 8 wire? It even went into common language as having a ‘number 8 mentality’ meant inventing something out of nothing and making do with what you have at the same time.

Not the same, but the spin off uses are similar

It's all we had in the middle of nowhere hole in a asbestos sheet roof and machinery getting wet wasnt going to do any more damage than the tornado did  no windows to smash and my fellow workmate at the other side making sure no staff were in the firing line
