you are right, that's why I always laugh at guys saying they will bug out (my favourite was guy who wanted to bug out less than mile away from his house - so it was like bugging out to his back yard ;-)) maybe it is different somewhere else but I live in Yorkshire/ Leeds area and looking at google maps there is not many places to bug out and stay unnoticed. Bradford, Leeds, Halifax, Wakefield, Dewsbury, Huddersfield and few more seem to look like one big city. there are Moors and Dales but not a place to live with family ;-). Some people just don't realiste that UK is not Canada, US or Russia and it is hard to bug out and stay unnoticed. Of course it seems to look different in Scotland and probably there are less dense areas in England as well, but West Yorkshire looks dense - seems like North Yorkshire is bit better, has more woods imo and less dense as well

Which is why you should plan your BO to travel Through not travel To the woods.

A Bug-Out in this country is better served with a Sister-bag (to stay in a hotel or at a mate's place for instance) then a Wilderness setup.

That said, if everything goes 'LoneWolf' and you then have to bug-out you'd need an INCH

Indeed imagine how you would have to compress your population into about 3 average sized states to get an idea, it's a wonder our island hasn't sunk isn't it? ;)
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

it all about knowing your area well and looking for a suitable BOL well in advance of the event, its no good leaving it until the last minute then roaming the countryside like a refugee. there are places out there in this island of ours but you have to go out and find them-they are not coming to find you.

coming back to camping - I found woods quite close to me (15 miles?) that belongs to forestry commision - it's of a size 1 mile x 3 miles approx - maybe bigger . who guards the woods that belong to them? do they have any guards? I know they don't allow camping as I checked, and it is still small enough to be found by tourist and be grassed ;-) what If I will be found there camping? bivi, shelter, etc - will I be just asked to leave or will I get fine?

Unless you happen to wander onto any kind of shooting estate within about 500 yds of feeders.

I have made the blunder of being dragged from my slumber at dawn by a very angry, shotgun toting gamekeeper..! :o And to be honest I don't blame him.

As soon as you put another man's livelihood on the line, you have to think how you would feel when placed in their shoes. Again, being aware of your surroundings will prevent this from ever happening.

I've thought long and hard about this (but not yet made any plans to BO).
For the basic situations where we have no power, water, etc for a short while, a sizeable number of us will, to a greater or lesser extent, be prepared (yay!). We have water preps, gas heaters, camping stoves, etc and plenty of food. So we won't starve and we won't freeze.
For the next stage up, eg major flooding, house fires, most of us will be under-prepared, but will hopefully have insurance, transport and either someone who will put us up or a nice piece of plastic to wave at hotel reception and in shops to sort us out until the insurance kicks in (this might take some time if it involves more than just your own home). (Reminder to self to get off proverbial backside and get moving on this level :).)
Third stage is total collapse. No money, no food in the shops, etc - for any reason (it really won't matter why). I would stay home, but this is where opsec comes in. No-one knows you're a prepper - right :)? You just have to stay under the radar and make everyone else think you're suffering too (if you speak to anyone, that is). Dark eye shadow (under your eyes!) to give you a haunted look might come in handy here :). Most of us are under-prepared for this too - and this is why we prep.
Fourth stage! This is where you all think I'm crazy and maybe I am :). The country is invaded by a culture alien to the status quo. Think Nazis, since it's too politically incorrect to mention anything else. You are no longer safe. Just by being Christian, Jewish, Hare Krishna, disabled, unemployed or whatever - you are persona non grata. Worthless! You will be exterminated. What are you going to do? Where are you going to hide? If the invading/controlling force want to find you, they will. Technology has improved leaps and bounds since WWII, when the partisans holed up in the woods, etc. Start thinking along the lines of tracking dogs and work your way up though heat seeking equipment and infra red cameras. If, like me, you are resigned by the fact that you cannot and will not give up your own beliefs and integrate (if allowed) into the new society, you will have to be prepared to suffer the consequences. Hard enough to do yourself, but think about your family. If you think you know how to keep yourself and your family hidden, safe, watered, fed and warm in those circumstances (especially in Scotland), I would love to know how you would do it. Anyone up for the challenge?
