What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
Just when they say ‘Stand and deliver! All yer money for petrol!’….

Weather all over the place.
I got some plants delivered this morning. It was quite cool, so I put a thin fleece body warmer on, and a softshell on top. Was sweating cobs!
Back in t-shirt and shorts this afternoon. Had to hunt for the shorts. They'd fallen under the bed, against a wall. Could have festered there for months, so it was fortunate.
Had electrician replace a ceiling rose/cord/fitting. He's done it so the centre of the bulb is about 11 inches from the ceiling rose. Paper lantern is 20 inches diameter. So it's almost touching the ceiling! Looks ridiculous. Got another electrician coming to sort it out.
At least I got the bathroom light working.

Richard o’ Sullivan. He was in Man About the House and Robin’s Nest.
Bonus points if you remember the theme tune to Man About the House. Also, don’t kill me when you are humming it tomorrow…

Wife's car just had a pre autumn check over nothing major (all) lights, tyre pressures, checked tread depths, battery load tested, cleaned the windows and wiper blades, levels checked and topped up, started adding winter -10°C mix screenwash instead of summer stuff, ready for the onslaught of dark nights and mornings

EDF have dropped my recommended DD back to £84.20, so I've rounded it to £85. I was paying £92. They have a year of me living on my own now, and some portable AC use over the summer, so it should be pretty accurate now. I am about £240 in credit at the moment, which they seem to regard as slightly on the high side. Their little projection graph based on 84.20 ended up about 195 in credit this time next year.
I've moved one of my 700W Dimplex electric radiators into my room ready to test when the weather cools down. I've plugged it into a Tapo - the same one I used for the portable AC in the summer. Trying to remember/figure out how I use it as a timer. When I turn it on on my phone, it should turn off after 10 minutes. I can't test it properly til it's colder. This is much cheaper than firing up the C/H in mild weather, when I only want one room warming up slightly. It doesn't even run for 10 minutes, as the thermostat turns it off earlier. The Tapo is to stop it automatically coming on 20 minutes later.

where do you get your batteries Andy? I usually use Battery Station for Duracell/Energiser but if there's somewhere cheaper for the same quality...Yorkshire Andy wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2026 8:31 pm Added 112 batteries to my on line order

Figured out Tapo timer. You have to click on settings, Auto Off Timer, turn it on, and then set minutes. So now whenever I turn the radiator on using the app, it will turn off after 10 minutes. Sorted. You don't use the Timer at all. Confusing!
