Yeah but those are very different situations to long term survival after a breakdown of the world as we know it. All those natural disasters for me at least would require leaving. Get out as fast as possible with the 72 hour kit, or even better bug out vehicle, and/or go stay with relatives etc. Even Holiday Inn is viable then! Best survival tool at that point is probably a credit card... As soon as the disaster is over, and if you survived it, you would return. Nuclear is obviously different, but as society is still there the state will step in at some point.

Surviving the end of the world as we know it for me is a very different event...

the only way to get by without prepping is either looting or taking from others who HAVE prepped.

i dont think nuclear is an option, after all we have M.A.D., nobody would survive that, that really would be the end of the world.

yep and that's aways an option, you can never tell what you will do in any given situation until you are in it.

Never a good idea saying or suggesting you own guns for personal protection on a UK based public forum, its a fine way to get a visit from the police and confiscation and ban from owning firearms.

I tend to question peoples strong conviction or belief when they say they will kill people, its a big thing to say, for a lot of people not an easy thing to live with. Even if you have served your country, its one thing to kill another soldier or enemy combatant as its a kill or be killed situation, but to kill a man, women or child just trying to not starve, well that's quite a dark place to be from a personal level.

i DIDNT say i would shoot someone, i said "take care you dont get shot", and yes, in a post SHTF situation i would kill someone (WROL) if they were trying to steal the stores needed for my family's survival, in that case it would be a kill or be killed situation. i question anyone who says they dont need to prep, i wonder just what that person is doing on a prepping site, then get threatened with a visit from plod, it makes me wonder if that person is a nark,a government spy, or even-the lowest of the low-a journalist saying things to get a response, in any case not someone worthy of further conversation.

Sometimes it is best to assume you will likely come second if it resorts to a life taking situation, after all you might be lucky and the raider is an unarmed meek and mild person who wouldn't say "boo" to a goose, but it is just as likely going to be someone sitting out at 300mtrs waiting for you to stick your head out of the door so they can remove the threat before coming close.

Also worth remembering that almost any injury sustained in a dispute could result in serious long term consequences as you are unlikely to be able to see a doctor or medical person.

Also there are likely to be millions, if not hundreds of millions of survivors should there be a nuclear confrontation, as it is unlikely that it would go "All out super power confrontation" as that was pretty much propaganda put about by the anti-nuclear lobby.

Spoken like a true politician, love to know how you'd achieve that though without prepping?

I think I said in my "Hi" post that I could probably go a month without going shopping, that's because I have a stock cupboard, I've got no actual stores though, I like to think I'm a survivor and can look after me n mine whatever happens but without prepping.... Unlikely!

That's why I'm here, to learn from those who are prepping and have been doing so for a long time and to offer any experience I may have on a practical/theoretical level in return. To want to be comfortable when everyone else is just getting by is a bit crass really imho. :(

Just my tuppence worth...
