As for an iminent global catastrophe, no I am not expecting one and I am definately not hoping for one.
Yellowstone is 50,000 years over due so it could happen tomorrow or it could be another 50,000 years. As for the La Palma one, it all depends how the magma created heat effects the water that is inside the mountain rock. If it heats up causing the rock to crack it will create a massive ladslide that would create a 600 foot tsunami that would head west towards the states. Other waves would head north and south with the northern one hitting Devon & Cornwall as well as southern Ireland.
When you think that the Indonesian tsunami was only about 20 feet high I'm sure you would agree that 600 feet of water coming at you at over 100kph is a bit daunting. Just watch The Day After Tomorrow and you will get an idea.
Still, it hasn't happened yet so I can still pop down to Lidl and give this recycled bog roll a good looking at. If my fingers do go through it, I shall know who to blame.
Be lucky (and bottoms up)
