How are you preparing

Today I prepared myself for boiler failure / gas supply problem :D .....short lived ones at least

Yep, I finally bought a portable heater with 15kg gas bottle. Was without a boiler for a week in November '12 and still remember how cold it was. We borrowed an electirc heater and oil filled radiator but they weren't great, plus expensive to run.

Being safety conscious i.e. not wanting to buy one from eBay that someone has messed with, I bought a new one from a Calor in Manchester. Not cheap but having it makes me feel all warm inside

Not too familiar with the price of gas bottles, but was really pleased to get a full 15kg one (without one to exchange) for £40 (not from Calor!). A refill (replacement) will be £30. Now hoping one of you lovely people don't point out I've paid too much!

Tomorrow I'll be checking my water stash for expiry dates and quantity (lost track a bit  )

Great prep that! My brother uses a portable calor heater too. Very very economical and very efficient.

Find local boc chain or independent gas agent calor can be expensive ideal for caravans as you can swap / exchange country wide when on holiday for example

Was nice to open my cupboards and see my stashes though, sister and family live day to day food wise which I found shocking!! They never know what they will want to eat was their reasoning behind it. I had a word with them to at least do a weekly shop if the basics and then increase to a monthly shop. I was very shocked indeed!!
Just thinking about the paramol (I did a previous post mentioning I bought it too) and the newbies we have joining us. Paramol is mega effective AND addictive (I only use it for migraines when co-codamol doesn't do the job). Codeine is also famous for 'bunging you up' so make sure if you buy it you have a healthy stash of poo tablets as well ;)

Hope you don't mind me barging in here Decaff, it just struck me that some people may not know about paramol.......

It might be better to deal with digestive congestion with brown lentils which when cooked thoroughly are a very good food and also really does assist with digestive transition. If you carry on mixing your drugs it could get bad inside. Even antacids can prevent the absorption of various nutrients many months after discontinuing use, so if you can go easy on the meds and only use them in a real emergency that would make more sense.
I know that we all don't care much about the effects on the liver of the stuff we take for a real dose of the flu, but if you can exercise some caution that would be great. A gram of prevention is worth a kilo of cure (I know, I am all sooo metric these days!)

Managed to practice fire fighting today by err putting out a fire in the engine compartment of some large piece of plant machinery at work Despite a lot of things you read AFFF foam is surprisingly very effective on burning oil / diesel in a engine bay ;) when used correctly

Spiderwebb: Don't forget a CO detector, any fuel can produce CO and if theres no flue then it can build up

Good call Stasher!! I'm so used to it that I forgot to mention the ahem side effects of taking it, I eat licorice wheels and have plenty in my stash just in case.

Despite having a lump in my neck that looks like a ping pong ball, I made 5lbs of blackberry jelly this afternoon. Picked 8lbs of berries in the pelting rain yesterday and wasn't going to not make the jelly after all that hard work! Tomorrow if I'm up to it will be nectarine and plumb jam followed by strawberry jam. ;)

My neck lump is a blocked saliva gland so I have antibiotics which I hate, been told to eat sour sweets, lemon barley water and to go back next week to see if its unblocked! :(

Only upside is I can't eat anything as its too painful to chew, so a couple of pounds off before a family wedding is most welcome, although I'm starving as not eaten properly all weekend because it hurts

Sounds horrible, I hope it clears up sooner rather than later

Just seen the post re calor heaters. We've just shifted an old one, not used for donkeys, into the attic. CO2 detectors have always been on my 'really must get list, but clearly it needs to be on the NOW list. Thanks for the reminder
