Regarding cash.
I have a small safe up in the Garret (my indoor workshop space), its screwed to both the floor joists and the 2x4 framing of the short walls. Its also not so much hidden as partly concealed by a few items stacked on it and a tent propped in front.

I hold between £1500 and £2K in notes, mostly 20's and couple of hundred in 10's..... I'm currently short on fivers though.
I have bank bags of coins and they are also mostly 20's and 10's.
My EDC has a £20 and about ten quids worth of 20p's...... 20p's are to my mind the best combination of value, physical size and fractionality, 5 to the pound and weighs less per coin then every other silver apart from 5p's...... And, even though I'm a bit "tight" I don't mind overpaying by 19 pence, but 49 pence or 99 pence are beyond the pale.
Oh, payphones (should you find such a rare beast) and most vending machines will accept them.

Peter mentioned Half Sov's..... a bit hard to make change for, though are a great way to store wealth for after the Event (or buying something big, like transport out of the area of affect). I'm still saving up for a few.
