@Plymtom and @lonewolf
Every route in and out appeared to lead from one bottleneck to the next bottleneck, with, as far as I can work out, no means to get out quick once you are in the centre. The A38 west and east would be gridlocked and the Tavistock Road no better. One major roadblock and I reckon the centre would grind to a halt in no time.
@Lonewolf, thanks for the tips, I'll check them on Google and take a look-see the next time I'm there.
What Preps are you doing this week

I recently experienced Plymouth City centre so that's why I prep.

I'm not an angler but I do have a reel of fishing line and some assorted hooks in my GHB. I also have a ratchet reel which is essentially a mini-long line with hooks on it that can be left for several hours unattended. I can almost her the gasps of horror but to me, that's no worse than commercial long-lining for swordfish. If push came to shove, I'd have no issue with using either method to catch food.
Briggs, I'll be getting hold of some small hooks as well - apparently the hooks in the BCB kit are too big. I think though, that while I'm in the local fishing shop, I'll be sure to get as much information as I can on basic fishing and how not to fall foul of the law if I want to have a go, but I'd be more likely to get my friend's son to show me how to do it. Either that or I'll wander down to the jetty on a nice day and engage some of the anglers in polite conversation
. Where there's a will, there's a way. No gasps of horror. Fish are further down the food chain than we are and my plan is to eat, with as little suffering imposed as possible, but in difficult circumstances, needs must and time will be precious - can't be sitting there for three hours to land a tiddler. This isn't something I really want to do, but I see it as a life skill worth learning (but not getting obsessive about) just in case. Maybe a book on what edible fish look like might be a good idea LOL!

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
its the straight through route on reasonably wide roads but if the masses decide to leave at the same time as you it'd probably get grid locked, TBH I don't know how you'd get out of the city centre by road-and I lived there for 43 years! if I was still living in Ernesettle I wouldn't bother about roads, I'd go out over the rail way bridge down at the creek and follow the rail line until I got out into the countryside. getting out of a large urban centre is going to be a problem, probably better to hunker down, lay low and wait until the mayhem and violence has subsided and get out then!Briggs wrote:@Plymtom and @lonewolf

Adapt or Die, there is no middle ground.
Re: What Preps are you doing this week
It may be worth paying your local angling shop a visit because I bought some pre-lined small-size hooks in a pack of about 20 for a few quid and some tiny cork balls I can thread through for floats. I figured pre-tied hooks are ideal because if I'm wet, cold and hungry I won't be all that inclined to thread and tie perfect knots. The rachet gizmo I have is called a YoYo. Have a search on Google to see it in action. It's on sale from most places, here's one...FEISTY wrote:Briggs wrote: I'm not an angler but I do have a reel of fishing line and some assorted hooks in my GHB. So Chav Tartar may not be as "out there" as all that then?

I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Je voudrais bien cuit, s'il vous plait
. Less chance of catching so.... That was naughty, very naughty and I'm chastising myself right now

I got quite excited when I read this from Briggs I know and have made fish traps, but hadn't thought of this so I went straight onto the internet to find the ratchet reel with hooks
after reading up on them realised that Briggs had put the hooks on himself and had not brought the reel with the hook on
But thank you Briggs for the idea another job for after the move

I don't actually fish , but that's really just because I found it as dull as dishwater when I tried it. It just seemed a lot of sitting around and a tiny bit of something happening. So to all off the anglers out there you can have a pat on the back for having far more patience than I
When I was younger I remember a friend "fishing " without a rod or lines or bait . He used a method that wasn't sporting and certainly wasn't discriminating. He used a glass jar filled with , if I remember correctly , celliod film which he lit screwed the top on and lobbed it in. The film burned and the gases caused the jar to explode stunning the fish. I can't say I saw it work more than a couple of times but for a quick post SHTF meal such a thing may be worth considering , although there are probably better and more easily available combustains than film.
