Why are you here ?

How are you preparing

It may sound odd, but I have always had a sense of impending doom, a kind of knowing it is coming. I always feel like I should be preparing for it and that there is soo much to do and so little time.
It started when I was a kid and I have always dreamed in full colour and often with smells and real pain. Many of my dreams as a kid were apocalyptic and even included things which I couldn't/shouldn't have possibly known about.

An example, I had a dream once wher I was working in a little run down workshop on the mountain side. It was no the UK, somewhere hot and the vegetation was very thick with big trees lining the dirt track. The mountians were high and had very steep tree covered sides.
I knew the city was just over the eastern edge of the mountian I was on and I looked over toward it sensing something.
Then a massive flash of purple-white light, a scortching heat and I was hit by a blast. It was like being hit by concrete. Instantly wide awake sweating in terror.

It was many years later taht I read the survivor acounts from Hyroshima and was stunned to find people talking about how the flash was purple not just blinding white. There is no way I could have known that. I don't know if it was some kind of past life or precognition thing (if you believe in all that) or just the product of a very vivid imagination??? All I know is that I have had many such dreams through my life and every one has been terryfying.

I have spent my whole life compelled to collect seemingly useless skills. Everything from spinning to computers. I just know that it will all be needed someday.

freaky now that I think about it :?

Not freaky, I'm not sure about past lives but I am sure about clairvoyance & warning dreams. It happens and it's real. Look on it as help from an unseen source and thank them

And yeah, apocalyptic dreams are not fun. I read the wrong books at far too young an age (Day of the Triffids, The Chrysalids etc) and spent my pre-teen years drawing underground houses with store rooms and indoor gardens...

I read the topic and thought it is because I have an obsevive compulsive prepping disorder and this was a self help group.
22 years ago I became a single parent witha disabled baby who was in hospital often. There was not much time to go grocery shopping, so when I shopped I shopped with stocking a pantry in mind. I had a bag permanently packed with clothing, food, toiletries and cash and it lived permanently by the front door.
The millenium came and I stocked up for that adding a cook stove and gas cartridges and lots and lots of candles, as we know it turned into a damp squid, but I learnt a valuable lesson a lot of people knew about my store cupboard and the amount of people that said they were coming to stay with us taught me to keep my mouth shut about any stores.
Instead I used up my stores over a 6 months period, laughed with those that was taking the micky and saved the grocery money and took my kid on holiday instead, I deliberately let everyone see the cupboard was nearly empty and I don't discuss prepping with anyone.

The book day of the triffids was required reading at school along with, the Lord of the flies, brilliant books.

I guess I kinda conditioned myself into the prepping mentality, though some of my friends have helped.

I was in the Army Cadet Force when I was younger, which allowed me to cut my teeth on a lot of survival stuff, but it wasn't until I met my friend V that I seriously started thinking about survival both urban and rural. We were both in a similar situation in that we wanted to get started but kinda needed to help each other, and we did. Five years later and we've learned a helluva lot.

People have been saying this country has been going in the shitter form the beginning of time, one generation has always looked down on the next, but there has always been a believe within the masses that our kids would always have a better life then what was before. Now there is a general consensus that that is no longer true and life will get harder.

The rich are getting richer and crushing and stealing from the general public and using their powers to suppress the people and take anything they might have that could defend themselves and keep them free. (first guns, then knifes, then information, now they are trying to control the internet)

When life becomes so bad that the people can not take it any more they will go to the streets and the police get used to crush them, if people band together the police and army will be used to kill them, at some point (a lot already see it) people will realise the system has been set up to keep the political classes and their rich friends where they are, they will just not play ball. The country will go down the drain as debt will not be paid and no other country will want to sell or work with us and the only person you will be able to rely on is yourself.

I am here as I know the ruling elite hate each and everyone of us, and purely deal with us on a basic level so they have someone to rule. I choose to play in this system only enough to not make my life overly hard but they can go fu*k themselves if they think I'm doing more then the bare minimum it requires to get by.

As they say the only person you can rely on is yourself.

I'm with metatron on this one.

Am most interested in involving my kids and passing on info and skills to them as I believe they'll see the worst of it.

peak oil for me,
that and the every increasing population we will need to feed.
when you consider that the ever increasing oil price will some day run to the point where its too expensive to run farm machinary at a profit, or the price of food is out of the reach of most people, billions will starve
