Couldn't agree more, I always keep Diaoralyte in stock since a bout of gastroenteritis. The locum who came out to me said that had literally saved his life when he got gastro abroad. Great stuff, and replaces lost body salts and minerals.

Talking of anti-diarrohea medicine, anyone know what the active ingredient is in it? I got some immodium instants to take on holiday and they were nearly a fiver for a packet as far as I can remember. Sainsbury's do some 'anti-diarohhea capsules' for about 90p. I appreciate that the immodium instants do actually work INSTANTLY which is brilliant and quite often a neccessity if you aren't at home, but if the active ingredient is the same then some of the cheapy ones could get chucked in the first aid kit too. Unless of course they are crap (no pun intended!) in which case I would just bite the bullet and stock up on the immodium.

Has anyone tried the Sainsbury's own brand, or any other 'generics'?

I think the key ingredient is loperamide, which you can buy generically online or from chemists and some supermarkets I believe. :)

Back hurts so I've not a lot else to do, Sainsburys anti Diarrhoea(sp?) capsule has the same active ingredient as Immodium. Price difference? £1.50!

Also found this.

You can indeed, Lil. I'm old fashioned enough to keep some. My cast-iron tummy hasn't needed it in donkeys years though :D You can also get Kaolin tablets.

Just had a rummage through the first aid box...I tend to buy a couple of packets of something if I'm in superdrug/supermarket or whatever, so I've a few different brands:

Imodium - active ingredient Loperamide 2mg
Tesco Diarrhoea Relief - active ingredient Loperamide 2mg
Superdrug Acute Diarrhoea Relief - as above
Diocalm Ultra - as above.

So, yeah, if it says Loperamide 2mg it's the same as Imodium but usually a fair bit cheaper.

Different sized plasters and antiseptic ointment. Especially if you're a taxidermist.
Considering we're prepping for all crises, I would also suggest a syringe and needle, and fine stitching needles and suture. Tube bandages are also handy.
